Good job Bugdude, I have been approached several times as everyone has asking for money etc..I usually say I can pump you a few gallons of gas or buy you the food and bring it out but I don't like handing out cash due to never fully knowing the plans for it, and I don't usually carry much cash on me if any in the first place. Way to be a great human and helping someone out

Good job. It wasn't cash and he can't drink it or put it up his nose.

What?! You didn't immediately get off the X and shoot him to the ground then prone his buddies out in the parking lot? What kind of concealed carrier are you?!

Seriously, I agree with everyone here. It's nice to hear someone who was able to maintain situational awareness, assess the possible threat, but act appropriately. Nicely done, sir. You're a good example to others.

I recently stopped in a gas station to pick up a newspaper when a similarly scraggly dude approached me with the old "I don't have enough gas to get home" routine. Followed by "could you loan me ten bucks, I promise I'll pay you back".
My solution? I asked him to turn the ignition key so I could see just how much gas he "needed".

    When he declined, I walked.

Unfortunately the handout routine has been so abused and over used that I am the eternal skeptic when called on the phone or approached in person for assistance. I wish I could embrace my wife's attitude of giving from her heart and not questioning what use her gift goes to. In today's information society we are constantly made aware of those who are out to "make a buck" without having to work for it.

IMO you did the right thing and in the same situation I would hope I would as well. I commend you for your kindness, but am a little saddened by the state of our society that would put good folks like yourself on high alert during a simple act of kindness..... Times are hard for a lot of folks right now, but it's also folks like yourself that illustrate how both can be achieved when good judgement and self awareness work together like they should.

I am truly humbled by the kind words and sentiments expressed by each and every one of you. Thank you. We are gun owners, carriers, yet from what I have been able to ascertain from my regular interactions with the fine folks here that does not mean are not also good, kind, caring people. I'm tired of the antis trying to paint us all with a broad brush of negative stereotypes. We must show through our actions that they are wrong.

Thanks to you all from which I have learned so much regarding firearms, carrying, safety, situational awareness, preparedness, etc. I saw them when I pulled in anticipated what would likely happen. Thanks to many things I have read here, I knew to take my key, close my door, how to position myself, and how to proceed. There were numerous other patrons around, so I'm not sure why he came to me other than I was driving a nice truck. Thanks to you all, I was well prepared yet able to do what I was lead to do in a way that was safe.

Kudos to all of you...I'm proud to call you all my friends.
