Amarillo man shoots attacking pit bull

hot off the press, man legally shoots attacking pit bull here in town
I there's been some discussions on legality, etc., its all up to your own state laws. Police say this guy will not be charged since this incident happened on his property. You can never tell what you'll wake up to.

i'm with the shooter, but I want to mention, imho, it is the dog's owner that's to blame here.
the owner's negligence and irresponsibility got his dog killed.
if anyone should be charged, it is the offending dog's owner.

And he did it with 25 shots less than the Bronx Police.

OK OK it was just a "harmless little dig of a comment" related to our other thread about 26 shots being fired in an attempt to stop That rogue dog.

I was the towns ACO(Animal Control Officer)for several years while in Maine. This was a very small town and we hardly had any problems with dogs. Mostly bear and moose. The one time that we did, unfortunately,I had to shoot the dog.

In Maine, the two words that the police want to hear are "sudden" and "unprovoked". I suggest that you always use these two words in a sentance when(if) questioned by a LEO (post shooting). ~~~~ CAUTION: This was Maine and I'm not a lawyer. ----------

Indeed they are, unfortunatley 99.9% of the American public don't know the difference.

Ditto. It's not like critters have a simple on/off switch. Sometimes, the only effective "off" switch is lethal force. Too bad the law everywhere doesn't recognize this simple fact.

I shot a dog a few weeks back. Some kind of mastiff thing. Cop didn't know either.

In MI, the law doesn't discern between human or canine/ animal threats, self defense is self defense.

If there were any charges filed for discharging in town, or anything else like that, the animal's owner should have to answer. He caused the homeowner to have to defend himself and his family, IMO.

IMHO ( and not on a pitbull rant , i love american bull terriors ) with my experiances in Amarillo we should send him an SKS, and a case of ammo then just let him " thin the herd " a bit of both the two legged mutts and the 4 legged LOL .
