Police: Pittsburgh man tried to return cash after robbery

Police say a Pittsburgh man who robbed a couple at gunpoint tried to return the money but ended up being arrested by officers following a short foot chase.

Pittsburgh police say 21-year-old Mark Givens accosted the couple last week in the city's Sheraden neighborhood. Investigators say Givens pulled a gun on the couple and made off with $30.

Givens' girlfriend tells WPXI-TV he then had a change of heart and wanted to return the money and apologize. Authorities say officers tried to stop Givens as he approached the victims again, but he ran away.

Givens was detained on charges including robbery and resisting arrest. He's being held on $25,000 bail.

Online court records do not list an attorney for Givens.

This is definitely an odd one. So he robbed them and got away(granted with only $30), but then tried to go back and apologize and return the money? Guess he flunked BG school?

Well after all criminals are the sharpest tacks in the box.

Reckon he will get some time dropped for good behavior.

I'll bet that he really would have been VERY VERY SORRY if his firearm would have accidentally discharged during the robbery and one of the victims ended up dead or paralyzed for life.

Sometimes....being "Sorry!" just doesn't make it all go away.

Yup. For some things, "Sorry" just doesn't git it. Armed robbery would be one of those "things"...

I wonder if he has a previous record? Sounds to me like this may have been his first time, run into hard times and thought this was the way. If so he found that actions has consequences.

My best guess is that his afterthought was that a measly $30 was not worth the armed robbery charge which (in PA.) automatically gets you an extra "tacked on" 5 years for the commission of a felony using a firearm.

Once you do the felony w/ the firearm then what is done is already done & you can't go back into time and change it.

And he may NOT have been a "bad person" prior to this...but, the instant that you "feed the muzzle" to innocent people and demand that they fork over their money...you become a very bad person.

You become a felonious criminal and a thief.

He is trying to turn his life around, before everyone gets to say he was trying to turn his life around after someone shoots him.

Isnt the dumbest part expecting to just approach the same people again...that you just held a gun on?

The thing about "defense" is that it has practically nothing to do with guns. (As passed on by CCW9MM)

Guy pulls gun on them again, "Give me your wallet now! I'm putting this money back and you will take it, or else!"

It just doesn't have the same effect the second time around.

Would he have been sorry and returned the money if say it was $500 instead of $30 ? I think not.
