Well, lots of people have been sent to Hell by the revolver in SD scenarios. Of course it still "cuts it," as long as you can hit with it. But really if you're talking about an invasion by an army of thugs, you use the revolver only to fight your way to your AR...
+1. In considering the multiple BG attack, they are not going to stand there and take turns getting shot. You may have a couple seconds at the most, time to get off about 5 shots regardless of capacity. Place them well.Quote:

I have both Revolvers and Semi-Autos. Why stick with just one kind of firearm? I carry my Rossi .38spl just as much as my Smith & Wesson 9mm. Both handguns serve the purpose and none is more superior to the other. It is just a matter of personal preferrence and ability.
Not everyone is comfortable with semi-autos, racking the slide, changing magazines, recoil, etc. Not everyone is comfortable with revolvers either. Ejecting the spent casings, hand-loading one cartridge at a time, or using a speed loader, etc. Again, personal preferrence as to what kind of handgun serves the purpose and that is self-defense.
I think revolvers are OK for SD, in most cases. Revolvers are easy to train someone to use and for the most part require less maintenance than most auto-loaders. I think the choose of firearms, depends on where you are at and your risk factor. In a large city I would want more rounds. In the country I want more stopping power. Around the house I carry a Ruger GP-100 or a Taurus PT1911 and keep other long guns secured around the place. I live in the country with a long driveway, the driveway has sensors to let us know some is driving up. I doubt most bad guys are going to walk the 1.5 miles from the main road to the house and deal with the dogs.
While I love to carry my 640, I find myself carrying my 3" .45acp with 10+1 capacity more frequently. It is true that in most circumstances, 5 rounds will get it done, my concern is that if I end up in one of those other circumstances where 5 shots won't do. Such circumstances can be multiple perps, flash mobs or other such events where 5 rounds, regardless of delivery vehicle or marksmanship, won't be enough. I can get 31 shots off with my 10+1 .45 in about the same time as 10 from the revolver. Given that the times seem to be becoming more perilous, I find myself opting for more capacity more often. Both guns are roughly the same size and are equally easy to carry and conceal.
I agree with other posts here. It depends on your skill level with it. I used to have a .357 Colt Trooper 6" barrel and never felt under gunned with it, actually just the opposite. Having said that I would love to have one of these:

Everyone has to make their own choice of platform, caliber, capacity, etc. based on their own specific circumstances. What's right for one may not be for another. I have a number of both revolvers and semiautos, and the one I choose to carry depends on the given circumstances of the day. Sometimes I carry one of each, when the circumstance necessitates, which is the best of both worlds for me.
