What's the difference between a mob and gang and how would you know the difference, if there's one? By gang I mean Bulldogs, skin heads, MS-13, Bloods, Crips and the hundreds of other gangs out there. Retribution is certainly one thing to consider and how well is the gang / mob armed? I don't believe I would unholster and I would beat feet in the safest possible direction, unless and until me or we started getting battered. RUN FOREST RUN...

If surrounded...shoot one direction and hope a hole opens up and try and run through it, if not surrounded RUN.

Unless Im packing something full auto, and 30+mags I don't stand a chance on a stand and fight move.
Like my kung fu teacher told me, staying in one place and getting killed is not the smart tactic.
I know not what this "overkill" means.

Honing the knives, Cleaning the longguns, Stocking up ammo.

A mob would probably not have the long term comradery that a gang would.
It might be difficult to tell the difference.

Attempting escape would be a preferred strategy.
Once you started getting "battered", it might be too late to act.

As to MoMike's question, I don't see this as a stand your ground and fight to the end while killing everyone. I see shooting someone giving you room to move. Hopefully you have enough ammo to walk your way out of danger or to your car and you drive out. This is what I see wrong with carrying a revolver is this case, most everyone knows they hold 5-6 rounds. They may be counting. Auto's carry so many diffenent numbers I don't see someone counting shots. Once to and in the car you have very good if not the best weapon to remove yourself from danger.

The term "flash mob" was originally a fairly benign concept. Was something like this.

People showing up, usually in a shopping mall, a food court, singing and dancing, and if you were lucky, you might see one. Coolio.

Then, later, some numbnuts in the media appended the term "flash mob" to describe crap like this.

So it's disingenuous to label a coordinated gang attack as a flash mob, but language is flexible and changes and well, there you have it. But I think it's a category error.

Anyway, if some ratpack gang of street trash is charging you, a single round or two in their direction will most likely end the problem. They will not come running into gunfire. Bullets heading in their direction will probably steer them away from you.

Put yourself into the position of a dirtbag: "He only has 10 rounds - if he shoots me and 9 of my pals, the other 20 will get him!" No, it doesn't work that way. None of them want to have hot lead blasted through their bodies. Once they see gunfire headed at them, dollars to donuts they will scurry like the cockroaches they are.

Well I would try to avoid the situation, but that is impossible seeing as a flash mob happens just like that, in a flash. If I felt my wife or myself were in GRAVE danger I would draw, and if that doesn't stop the attack I would use my weapon then and only then after the threat didn't work. Remember if it is ME or HIM going home safe it is going to be me 100% of the time!

A can of bear mace in the car may help and if you have to move up the force continuum at least you tried.

A can of mace or pepper spray in the car would be a good thing to have, but it can't help you until you get to the car.

Don't forget there may be a member of the mob out there with his own gun, just waiting for an excuse to use it!

    So be it!
None of us know the time we die. This could very well be the time, but do we just lay down to do it? I say NO. What say you?

    Well put, I concur.

I seek not to hasten my demise, neither do I run screaming from its approach.
