Shooter at the main Post Office here in town

Officials: Police saved lives in postal shooting - Welcome to Charter.net

Headline reads something like, "Officials say police saved lives..."

Later it says PD had the shooter in custody within ten minutes of the starting gun.

I am not the only one, I bet, who sees the contradiction in this.

No idea, probably won't know for a while if ever, if he opened up from the front or side or back of the building. That would have made a difference to someone just there to drop off or pick up something. Also that it's a Federal NPE, that would have mattered, depending.

Interesting, but even happening where I live, not that interesting without additional details.

But still...ten minutes to police response despite close proximity.

    Keep that in mind.

I wonder how this will effect that lawsuit going on for making it legal to carry in Post Offices... hurt, help, or indifferent.

Glad no one was hurt. Ten minutes is a long time if someone is shooting at you. I'm interested to hear what the guy was doing and how many shots were fired and what direction he fired.

What was he shooting at ?? Kind of like the guy that shot at the White House, being charged with attempted assination, when no ones home, makes a great STORY.

Pretty vague article, but on par for media reporting these days. Motive? Disgruntled employee? Gang hit? Spurned spouse?

NMI, but 10 min to apprehend could be very good if the shooter had taken flight and had to be found. Article is way too sparse on info to really know what happened.

It's in a mall. So no, it's not banned by federal law. It's private property being rented by an entity that has the same rights as other renters. The only time that is not the case, is if the structure being rented is a free standing building. I found that distinction as I was researching what (may) give the USPS the right to ban firearms on their property.

That's why when the USPS rents a place inside a grocery store/bank/gas station/mall you can legally carry into that location. If they put up the no gun signs, you have to adhere to the state laws for that signage.

This incident, that has no real details given so far, should have no bearing on the Colorado lawsuit because this facility is on private property instead of federal property.
