I can't predict how a real situation would work out, but the wife and I discussed this type of situation. She is to suppose to duck, allowing someone to take the shot. Of course, a real situation may not allow that to happen.

If the cops are there, you will NOT be allowed to retain your weapon for more than 1.2 seconds. .
If the cops are not there, I got just two words: Crimson Trace

If you shoot your wife first, she'll fall down. Then you get a clear shot at the perp! Just sayin!
Scenarios are so ridiculous. But they sure do get people in an uproar.
In 25 years as a cop...I've seen only one gun to the head, "Back off or honey is dead". And that involved a guy coming home from work early. I'm not saying it never happens...
Anyway it had a good ending. An ESU cop racked his 12ga pump and homeboy finally understood that we were playing with real guns. Actually he had a pretty nice gun himself... a colt gold cup 1911.
Tell'em I wish them better luck than I had with her, turn and walk out the door.

I would just wait for the meteorite that was just at this very moment streaking towards the perps head from outer space to complete its journey. If that didn't kill him , then the blob will.
Just as likely.
If he took my wife, he'd probably end up committing suicide.
