Black Bear in your house. .223

    Hypothetically...

Lets say there is 350lb black bear IN your house. Lets also take it up a notch or two, by saying it is using you wifes leg as a chew toy.
No bear spray. No running out the back door. ect.
You have either an AR or Mini-14 (your choice here)) but nevertheless....all ya got is .223.
    Yes this is unlikely.
Yes there are thousands of better choices out there for large dangerous game.

What I want to know is what .223 ammo would you want in that rifle. And, where would you be putting those shots into the giant fuzzball.

I would unleash them as a swarm of lead bees into the giant fuzzball.

I presume some sort of heavy grain soft point, but I'm no bear hunting expert.

I shake my head to think about where the heck my fellow forum members live and their lifestyle. Guess I'm a city boy and only worry about a king with no clothes in DC and when the Occupy zombies will begin their riots come November.

I'd empty the mag of 55gr hollowpoints then stab him with the pistol knife I took off my combat .22 and adapted to my AR.

30 rounds 162 grain fmj toward the heart as fast as I can pull the trigger, it's all I have in that caliber. I guess, in a best case scenario, I'd have 4 full mags of 'em, and I'd be running around the neighborhood listening for squeals of distress from one of the neighbors wives as I don't have one myself.

...I forgot about the phoney-baloney replica William Wallace sword stashed away in my closet, I guess I could throw that over my shoulder as my BUS in case I run out of ammo...assuming that I can locate the damsel in distress...

We had an incident where a bear came into a house locally. The residents called 911, and we're instructed to not shoot the bear. If they did so they would be fined.

    That is ridiculous!

Yes, that is ridiculous. I can see the advantage of trying to preserve nature, but to take it to the extreme of risking mine and my families life for it? get real...

I'm sure that my .45 at close range would discourage a black bear.

Well, I have bear issues all the time at my house. I live way back on top of a mountain in Westen Md. I have had bears in my garage, on my porch, in my truck and inside my wifes SUV. I even had one standing in my treestand one evening when I walked up to go bow hunting! As a matter of fact I even shot one that was chasing my horse. I didn't use my AR though, I used a 30.06 and it dropped him like a rock. Hit him just once.
I do know a guy in my area that did shoot one with a .223 and it also dropped quickly. Also a single shot. They really are a bit easier to kill than a white tail deer for some reason.
