Yet when someone posts an article, minus the video, on this site saying some "dirtbag" gets shot during a robbery, assault, home invasion, etc., half the forum jumps on and makes jokes about it and puts a bunch of those little yellow animated symbols in their posts.

So what's up with that, guys? See the hypocrisy?

This ought to go at least ten pages. If an officer had a gun pointed in my face, i would be proned out on ground... this guy went to a gun fight with a crowbar... not too smart. Rest in peace. bunker

I was thinking the same thing, but with the crowbar raised and ready to swing, I wondered if the dog would get to him and disable him fast enough.

I wouldn't send my dog into a crowbar.

Police Use Lethal Force Outside Carl's Junior

Didn't know if everyone has seen this yet, but it looks like a good shoot to me. Officers attempted to use non lethal force before resorting to lethal force. Wondering if any LEOs would like to chime in on why the dog was not used? I'm guessing for the safety of the dog?

There is another thread on this, but yes, sending a dog against a crowbar is very dangerous for the dog.

Yes, if I was a K9 officer, I wouldnt send my dog against a man armed with a tool of that nature.

Well, they 'are' service dogs and the moment the guy went for the other officer he could have let him go - not like the other officer couldn't have moved a little, although he did hobble toward the criminal while apparently trying to un-holster his gun. I really don't think that guy would have stood a chance and the dog would have had him down in no time, that's what they are trained for and he was certainly ready and willing to do his part.

Not necessarily saying one way is right and the other way is wrong, but I do think there were options here.

If the bad guy catches the dog with the crowbar, which is quite possible, it will be time to get a new dog. Any idea what a trained police dog costs?

No, I don't - do you? There are however police dogs being trained all the time... not like they only train them as needed.

Any idea what the potential law suits could cost? I don't... but there is always expenses when things like this happen.

    Career criminal? Don't know.
Guy having a really bad day? Don't know.
Guy having a melt down and wants to die? Don't know that either.

Just saying, there were definitely other options here and I'm not sure how the parking lot was setup but it seems to me there could have been some traffic going by catching loose bullets.

I'm not a cop and don't play one on TV, so for all I know this situation was handled textbook perfect.

    Lots.
