Regardless if the story is true or ficticious.

    1. If someone is walking up to your car after they have cut you off, roll up your windows and lock your doors. Plenty of time to do that.

    2. Put your car in reverse and get out of the area. Call 911 and report what has happened, while you are driving away. Note: only time I advocate talking on the phone while driving:

    3. If they don't reach the car and into the car they can't claim they were dragged by you for x number of feet.

    4. Sounds remarkably similar to the video of the fellow doing wheelies on the crotch rocket down the freeway.

Learn from the story and keep yourself out of harms way. At least something good can come out of it if you learn something whether the story is true or not.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

I use the ac so my windows would be up. The doors are always locked so there would not be anyone turning off my truck. Try to break in and we have a problem.

Like Badey said I posted this last night before I went to bed so here I am posting my follow up just a short ten hours later. Sorry I couldn't get to it sooner -_- let me say this I don't really care if you believe this story, it is something that happened to a buddy of mine and he is currently going through the trial process for the whole incident. I'm sure there are things he said to make him seem better and the off duty cop worse, but I did not post the story to get your thoughts on the legitimacy of the whole thing like I asked in my op I just wanted to know what your reaction to the guy pulling you over the way he did and his actions he took after. I simply posted the whole thing to provide as many details in as possible. Again sorry if you think I'm trolling, it was not my intention. Sorry if you thought I was coming up with a complete fabrication, that is not the case weather you believe me or not(like I said I don't really care if you do). Finally I was NOT there so I obvesually don't know all the details or what he embellished or downplayed to make his story seem better for him but again that was not the point of the story. Again it sorry but this thread seems to have gotten off to a bad start.

I think the story is BS but trying to read between the lines this is what I get.

Off duty cops tries to pull over this guy for some reason and the guy realizes the cop is off duty and he leaves, blazes out of there. Dragging the cop? Who knows. Cop calls it in and the police arrest the guy at his house.

But here is what I do know. Cops often tell fibs when they file charges. They put allot of big nasty charges on the sheet so the DA has some leverage. It's not right, but it's one more way that our justice system has been perverted.

How my version of reality compares to the real thing we'll just have to wait and see if the OP comes back.

The BS meter is high on this one... But regardless:
    1: Complete lack of awareness.
2: Why sit there? Escape and evade.... Back up and go around.
3: Your still there and you let someone you don't know invade you personal space?
4: He who tells the story first is most likely to be believed, however in this case, I don't think any of this is believable..... I have a.... a... umm... friend..... Yea, a friend that says it burns when he pees....

I'm hoping that with the drawdown in forces from our overseas commitments, that may young woman and men from the military will again embrace becoming Peace Officers and we can see an upward cycle of the positive relationship with LEO/Military/Civilian again.

    Pipe dream, I know.

Update - When I grew up (as a young'in) I had total trust in the LEO in my town or on the highway, not so much anymore. Sad to say that.

BS or not, I'm trying to think of a possible excuse for letting the hand get in the window in the first place. All I can
think of is that the apparent level of danger was diminished in your friend's mind by the presence of the woman and
child, and the man yelling "police." Not a bad ploy for a BG to pull; though I think the story is ah, rather incomplete.

It makes no sense that the off duty LEO would reach in and turn the ignition off and then merely walk away.
My guess is that if this is at all real, your friend turned the car on and did pull away, knowing the man claimed to be an officer
(perhaps disbelieving the claim which could make sense) dragging the officer who was fighting for
the keys. DUMB all around, but I can see something like that happening if your friend was really really really driving like
    a turd.

Another example of stupid meets stupid. Now a jury with an average IQ of 100 will have to sort it out. Hah!

Ok so many I should have been more clear in my op or my first follow up but the situation is some guy pulls in front of you gets out of his car and starts walking back to your car. At this point I think most of us agree we would put the windows up and drive away. But not all of us are as safety oriented or as cautious as most of us on these forums are. I agree my buddy handled it poorely and I would have done things very differently also. Just found out today he had his pre trial hearing today and the judge didn't throw the whole thing out but also said they should file for habious corpous and shoot for a mistrial because apparently the cop changed his story a couple of times while on the stand. His trial is scheduled for mid June. His lawyer thinks he has a good chance of being cleared off most of the charges in front of a jury. Again sorry if you felt like I was leaving things out but that was the situation as it was explained to me. If all I was going to get was told that I was obviously making a story up and accused of trolling and what not I would have not even posted this story I just wanted to see what your guys reactions to being stopes like that would have been. The whole thing dose seem so unlikely and thats why it sucks even more for my buddy who could get up to twenty years jail time for the whole thing.

So, focusing on just what I put in bold, the story makes even less sense. Sounds like your friend is being held without
bond, or with one too high to make, and will sit there till trial. I dunno. There's more going on here than you are telling
or that you know about. If I were you, I wouldn't post here because .... it is unwise.

Your friend has representation and now he needs for his mouth to be zipped and his friends to shut up,
and everyone let his lawyer do his job.

Assuming this happened exactly as you wrote, not only will your friend get cleared of all charges, he probably will enjoy a nice civil suit settlement. The off-duty copy could have been shot or hurt. I will never pull over for anyone in an unmarked car. I'll drive to the nearest police station or fire station and will have called 911 too.

Why did your friend let an unknown person walk up to his car and reach in to shut off the engine? I think the entire story is not being told.

Randleflagg...On my behalf, just let me say, my call of Bravo Sierra was simply because of the story that your friend related to you and the "normal" actions of LEO's around the country. I guess anything is possible. Soooo, this is NOT an apology for my call, but, since you have remained constant in your assertion that the story is true, then the majority of folks that replied, saying they would have never allowed an unidentified person in their window, would have rolled it up, backed up, exited, called 911, etc...is also my reaction to a real life situation such as this.

More importantly however...I don't think anyone on here would "intentionally" belittle another member based on their occupation in life or the way they use the King's/Queen's English...but there are those of us that might occasionally correct your English to make a story more understandable. As far as I'm concerned, you are WELCOMED to DEFENSIVE CARRY anytime and welcome to post any questions or scenarios ANYTIME regardless of whether or not you are an English major. I wouldn't have the slightest idea how to do your job as a tool grinder and would dang sure respect any guidance you gave me on the subject if I had questions...We're all here to enjoy the fellowship of fellow gun owners and pro 2nd Amendment folks and that means YOU as well...Sooo hang in there, as you get to know folks on here and learn their personalities, the waters smooth out ....cough cough..."some"

Please continue to provide us any and all information that is "released to the public" including any links to articles...As someone else said, I'd kinda refrain from relating any more inside facts for fear it might jeopardize your friends case. JMO
Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.

To the OP just a couple of questions, generic ones.

Does your friend have a history of problems with LE? Does he happen to live in small town?
