    New trend going on.

Just trying to let people become aware of a new trend thats going on. My father in law told me that he was reading some shooting magazine and the new trend of theft is the bump and rob. It is when a person rear ends your car and you proceed thinking it was just an accident. As soon as you bend over to check the damage of your car your eyes have become turned away from the person and they crack you on the head or pull a gun/knife on you. So new trend guys just become aware and never take your eyes off the person and try to proceed to a well lit area and wait for the cops.

I have heard of this happening.
I drive a pickup and sometimes pull a travel trailer with me..
I just decided to leave my big weight distribution hitch on all the time. makes it difficult to bump from behind.
and if you do rear end me (and try to drive off like one guy did before I had hitch) it might take a welder to get your car off of mine!

While not a new issue, it does remind one to never go completely off-guard.

I don't let people stand behind me in those situations. I've been in a couple fender benders. I'm always the one standing behind the other party. I try not to allow myself to get distracted from the possibility of a set-up whether it be an insurance scam or a scam to rob me.

If by "new" you mean in the last 10-15 years, then yes.

It's a good idea to leave enough room in front of you to be able to pull away in an emergency.

You know, if you say "green beans" slowly enough, it sounds like gullible...
