    Parking Enforcement Officer Carjacked

Thankfully the PEO had relatively minor injuries and the thug was apprehended.

    http://www.lohud.com/article/20120517/NEWS/305170092

The terrifying drama began at about 3:40 a.m. when the officer was writing a ticket in the Bank Street municipal lot. Police said Saunders, who has a long criminal record, walked up and demanded that she give him a ride and money. When she refused, Saunders allegedly opened the door to the city-owned 2009 Ford Focus, shoved the PEO against the center console, and got in.

Crushed between the console and the 6-foot, 2-inch Saunders, who police said weighs 240 lbs., the diminutive, 100 lbs. PEO tried to fight him off, police said.

Cops said Saunders drove the car across Hamilton Avenue and onto the sidewalk, smashing into a fence. He then got out of the car and flagged down a newspaper delivery man, who police said stopped when he saw the smashed up Ford, thinking that a city employee was in an accident.

At that point, police said, the PEO radioed for help as Saunders tried to pull the deliveryman out of his car. The deliveryman fought him off, and police arrived moments later, arresting Saunders as he tried to run away.

I don't know why PEO's don't get issued weapons. They should at least have tazers.

In this situation he would have probably disarmed her and would then have a gun.

I remember back in the day when they were called Meter Maids, the only requirement for the job was the ability to drive a golf cart and write. They had no LE training, and probably still don't. If they are going to be carrying in the line of duty, they need to attend the police academy prior to hitting the street.

Sorry to hear about it but I must admit it brought on a chuckle.
Why?? Because at the last second, the Police are minutes away.

No thank you. I'll dig ditched by hand to feed my family before I would take that job (Parking Enforcment). Seen too many of those people getting abused in the big city by people displacing whatever was bothering them onto the poor ticket writer.

parking enforcement here carry spray. We also have laws that would prevent public employers from restricting employees right to bear arms. If I had the job, you bet I'd be armed.

It would be bad news to mess with our parking enforcement division, they all carry guns and have arrest powers. Ok, so our city did away with parking enforcement and gave the job to the police.
