Every time we go to the outdoor range and set up for rifle at 50 or 100 yards or so, I can never help but to go for it with whatever handguns I brought. I think it's a lot of fun so I would say, quite often. Not for CC purposed, but strictly for fun.

You never know when that skill will come into play. Look at the old guy that shot the guy from 165 yards to assist the cop. It can happen.

He actually shot at about 165 FEET, not yards. The maps of the location show that it couldn't have been yards. But still good to get good at long distance.

I've been watching Bob Munden for a long time, proving it's quite possible to hit something at long ranges (200 yards in this video):

Even if that's true, it's still a 55 yard shot! Pretty good.

Read "Hell I was There" by Elmer Keith. He was dangerously over-pressuring handgun loads & shooting l-o-n-g distances before most of us were born. It's a real rewarding feeling when there's a three-count between the "bang" and the "clang". It's kinda' like handgun artillery.

Some of the longest ranges that are shot regularly are done in International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association shooting where with a centerfire gun you shoot 10 shots each at 50, 100, 150 and 200 meters.

The longest range shooting I do is 50yrds with a scoped super redhawk. It's not the greatest scope in the world but I can cut a ragged hole at 50yrds from a rest. As far as offhand goes.......I'll just say the groups open up a bit.

Glocks with RMR's make it much easier to shoot at long ranges as well.

That makes more sense. 165 yards is no gimme with a rifle, let alone an iron sight pistol.

It all depends on what you are used to.

We routinley shoot to 100 yards at the range. With the gongs out there, once you figure out where to hold, its pretty easy to slap them every time.
I do it quite a bit with a Ruger MK3 with a supressor on it. Not a big deal at all.

We also have a 100 yard silouhette range and its pretty common for lots of people to clean them all off,at 25,25,75 and 100.

With a bit of practice, its pretty doable. The problem is that most people wont do it because they think that they cant, so they talk themselves into not even trying and thats a mistake.
