I never won enough to find out
Things turned out for you but I think I'd be a little uneasy when the women asked about you winning some money. Very inappropriate. You said they all turned toward you when you said you won. Not good in my book. You may have diffused the situation by making it out a joke. Good strategy.
Of course, it is not easy to predict when you are about to be jumped by people who "look respectable." By the tone of your post it made me feel uncomfortable for you in that situation.

I used to live in Las Vegas, back when it was safe to talk to strangers. Even then, I was paranoid, and my normal response to the question about how was my luck: "They cleaned me out again". That was the answer whether I won or lost on the night.
Whether it's likely or not (getting robbed because of divulging that info) is hard to say. Probably not. But it does underscore the utility to a BG of posing such a question in an apparently innocuous way ... just like you experienced. From a BG's perspective, it could be a reasonably effective trolling method.

Seriously you don't have to blab about your winnings. Sometimes there are predators at casino's that are watching the pay-out windows for whoever might be leaving with a pocket full of cash. They'll follow them out and rob/abduct them in the parking garage or follow them in a car as they leave the casino, only to be robbed/killed later. It definitely has happened.
Turn the election's in 2014 to a "2A Revolution". It will serve as a 1994 refresher not to "infringe" on our Second Amendment. We know who they are now.........SEND 'EM HOME.
