What constitutes a SHTF situation?
I see posts on here from time to time as to what someone's gear would be if the SHTF. I see people posting their weapons selections being ARs or AKs for a rifle multiple shotguns and such. What really constitutes a SHTF situation where one would needs to be heavily arms at home or on the street? I can't come up with anything where having a rifle in the public would do someone any good. Carrying an AR around town slung over your shoulder isn't very feasible, and if a SHTF and you needed it you likely won't be able to get to your vehicle. My only SHTF situation I can think of where I would need a where I would need extra firepower and would have ready access to it would be a home invasion with multiple armed aggressors where I'm going to want a rifle. I'm just seeing if I'm missing something.

To me that would be a complete breakdown of society--ala Mad Max or Revolution. Depending on the "area" it could be something along the lines of N.O. and Katrina.

Anything which would make the trucks quit delivering, the lights to go out, the kitchen tap to quit dispensing, and the toilet to quit flushing.

I think civil unrest is the biggest concern for most of us here.

Several different elements:
As posted above, A) "Civil Unrest......on a massive scale" B)Anything which would make the trucks quit delivering, the lights to go out, the kitchen tap to quit dispensing, and the toilet to quit flushing.
ADD C) An inability of police and or National Guard to function.,
ADD D) An inability of the courts to function
All, lasting more than a few hours of several days and with NO immediate chance of relief.
In my opinion, NOLA was not a SHTF scenario. There was never a complete absence of police.
The National Guard and General Honore showed up as quickly as could reasonably be expected. There was
no reason to believe help would NEVER arrive or not arrive within hours or days.

Sorry, couldn't resist.
Seriously, what has already been stated would be about it. Low probability.

Zombies aren't SHTF. They're TEOTWAWKI. Totally different acronym.

But other than confiscate legally possessed firearms, they did little to stop the looting and other chaos. In effect, they met the criteria of [C] and [D]. Sometimes it's a matter of surviving only a few hours or days.

In any true SHTF scenario one absolutely would need to be heavily armed both at home and in the street.
If you can't come up with any ideas as to why good honest folks would need a rifle in public then you are missing something.
Do a little investigative research on what events can result in a local or complete societal breakdown.

There's actually A LOT of people, LE included, that are preparing for the riots that have already been promised if he does lose.
