Why don't you take your walks somewhere safer/ more lit up like a mall(not that they are really really safe), or a regular city side street during this time of the year.
You don't have to worry about the heat so much, and you can see farther.

danger often lurks in the dark.. its a common circumstance. A flashlight does not really change that.. if the perceived risk is not acceptable, I would not roam around a secluded park after dark. There are 2 sides to every coin. A flashlight can help you navigate in the dark and it can also draw attention to you when you may have otherwise gone unseen. Be safe
