Wife threatened while driving her Volt
My wife drives a 2012 Volt. So yeah, no doubt the Volt has a lot of political polarization surrounding it. I've driven it several times and one a few occasions I've had somebody say negative remarks to me in a parking lot, or something. But this evening my wife came home from visiting her mom and seemed a bit shaken up. She was driving down the highway right through downtown Ft.Worth and she said some men in a Ford dually pickup pulled up next to her and started screaming and cussing at her. At first she wasn't sure if they were even screaming at her but then she heard something about "think you're better than us because you don't use gas." or something to that effect. she said it was hard to hear clearly when driving 70 mph down the highway. So she knew it was her they were screaming at. Apparently this continued for quite some ways down the highway and she didn't know what to do. She was carrying her .380 pistol, but obviously pulling it out might not have been the best choice as they might have been armed too and it could have escalated things. Eventually they left her alone.
I've been running this scenario through my head. I'm not sure what I would have done either. Sure, you can call 911 but it might be a while before an officer can catch up with you. You can pull over on the shoulder and stop. But they might do the same thing and then what are you going to do? You could try to outrun them but driving 100 miles per hour down the highway isn't a good idea either. You can brandish your firearm, but they might take that as a threat and start shooting at you.
Since this is something that could certainly happen again, I suppose it might be a good idea to form a plan of action for the future. Any suggestions?
Incidentally, we've had 10 compliments for every 1 negative comment we get on the car. So it goes both ways.

Calling the cops and driving to the most populated place or a police station is the best thing. Trying to out run that truck is not safe and may not even be possible for that volt. Don't underestimate a diesel truck, with the right mods they can flat roll. Plus they're the size of tanks.

Get her a big bumper sticker that says "I'm saving my gas money to buy more ammo"

Brandishing is illegal, 'nuff said. It sounds like she was never in personal danger, besides getting her feelings hurt. Even if they had weapons and displayed intentions to use them, simply drive away and if they follow, call the cops and get ready to get dirty.

Shocking.

Glad she's okay. Not much to do in such a situation, other than ignoring the idiots. If they escalate, deal with that. If it's possible to evade without breaking into a "run" (ie, prompting the lion to give chase), great. She was armed, which afforded some options if it came to that. On a highway, it's tough as there are limited options. Stopping might have ended with them approaching the vehicle. Tearing off at 100+ mph almost assuredly would have resulted in a chase, possibly a crash. Can't "lash out" at them by shooting them to get them to go away. Seems to me like she did just fine, doing about all one can do when assaulted in that spot.

I like the idea of pulling into a high population area as soon as possible. The jerks probably will not pursue her there in front of others. If they do try for sure to get a plate number and call 911.

I was trying to come up with some answer and then read the above. This is probably the best suggestion I could come up with, as well.

Need to be mature enough to not get hurt over words other people shout at you, especially when you carry. Words really mean nothing.
I dunno, unless they were swerving at her or something I don't see why the cops need to be bothered every time someone yells at another person.
"They were big meanies!"
Move on, there's really not a situation to solve here. Some people are just vocal waste.
Oh and trust me, the Volt won't stand a chance against a diesel, don't even bother trying.

I would love to hear about the negative comments. I honestly don't get it.
She should have called the cops and continued driving. She should have been reasonably safe while moving. Even if the cops don't get there before they peel off get the plate number and report it when they do show.

Heck, I drive a 2004 Cadillac deville. You don't think people yell about my gas guzzler? Who cares, so I only get between 24 to 30 mpg. I drive away in comfort. Sorry to say your lady has to get a thicker skin. If all that happened was yelling about her car she should ignore the fools. Now, if she felt in danger because they were pushing or coming close to her I would say go to a highly populated area and call the police while keeping her firearm at the ready.
I don't even want to know the kind of people who would yell about the type of car a person drives.

I generally slow down for aggressive drivers and let them pass me by.
