It was Blue Bloods, I think! I saw the same show. Hollywood is a master at presenting a situation then determining the outcome to meet their agenda.
If you saw the show, it was a "reporter" who asked the Police Commissioner, whose son was the police officer, why the officer could not have shot the gun out of the perpetrators hand.
Perhaps it is just another "coincidence" that the good guys are made to look bad!

Then equate those "results" to the very real probability of outcomes on the street in those sorts of situations, where a violent assailant with nothing to lose is pitted against an upstanding citizen (or cop) who's required on the spur of the moment to halt a deadly threat without fail. Put it into simple terms: probability of losing ... losing everything you've got at that moment, starting with your life.
It could bring home the message in a way that, apparently, nothing else has.
