    Video scenario

I posted this video in the general discussion, but it poses an interesting topic in this section...

    http://media.ebaumsworld.com/holdinitdown.wmv
    (Foul language warning)

Scenario One: Assume that you are the driver of the blue PT Cruiser. How do you react? Keep in mind that there are thousands of witnesses and that the line of fire has a strip mall behind the guy.

Scenario Two: Now assume you are the driver of the white SUV/Minivan in the next lane. Assume that you are alone. Do you do anything other than call 911?

For both scenarios, assume you are in your locale with regard to laws and regulations.
    _____________________________________________

Scenario One (me): I wait till the guy is on the opposite side of the vehicle, exit while drawing, and fire as carefully as I can. I am assuming that he is trying to do great bodily harm and due to traffic, I cannot evade.

Scenario Two (me): I will exit the vehicle while shouting for people to call 911. I will seek cover over the hood of my car and instruct him to lay the weapon down. I will only fire if he approaches or if he starts beating the driver directly. I just don't think I could live with not trying to help.

He has a tire iron. I'd either run him down, or get out and go to town with a 20 oz rip hammer or a piece of rebar. Just try not to kill him, and EVA. IIRC, this is LA. If its not an area I frequent........

    Watch the video.

The perp starts on the right front fender/hood and works his way around the front of the vehichle to the driver's side windshield. He then hits the driver's side window.

If I was in the PT Cruiser, from the time he started, I would have drawn. By the time he got to the driver's side window, that's when I fire.

Without a CCW, the only thing for the PT Cruiser driver to do is to evade.

Other witnesses, unless they are absolutely prepared to take his life, I don't believe there is much else to do except call 911 and stand down defensively. However, once the attempt to physically attack the other driver, there's no other choice but to use lethal force to end the attack.

This area is actually the N.W. corner of Sahara Ave. and Las Vegas Blvd. in Las Vegas. Unless you have a NV. permit you better plan on carrying illegally or hitting the sucker with your car.

Kenpo was right, it's in Vegas; I've been by there many times. We've had that one posted here before. Without question, I would have backed over him and thrown it in park....

    My 9-1-1 transcript...

911: 9-1-1 what is the location of your emergency?

Me: Hi, ya, I'm at Sahara and Las Vegas Boulevard. Some guy had a crowbar or something... Oh wait... *blip blip*

    911: What's the matter?

Me: Oh, I think I hit a speed bump or something, hold on, let me back up and check... *blip blip*

    911: What is that sound?

Me: Not sure, let me go forward again, maybe it's something stuck to my tires. *blip blip*

911: Did you hit a dog or something?

Me: Oh there he is! That nice guy with the crowbar must've been checking my oil!

911: So you don't have an emergency?

    Me: Guess not. *grin*

    lol ;O)

    ---------------

For future reference... Crowbar used in a violent or threatening manner = impact weapon. Impact weapon when used by a criminal in a violent or threatening manner = deadly weapon (e.g. baseball bats, crowbars, tire irons, etc.). Car = Big mass of metal and plastic with a high velocity. Car = deadly weapon when used in a violent or threatening manner. Man with crowbar violently hitting a car and moving towards the driver's door... Car + man with crowbar = problem solved; deadly force on deadly force. =O)

If a person is "beating up" your car with you in it you can reasonably assume that he intends to coax you out of the car or force his way in with the added intent on doing you bodily harm. Given the traffic congestion there is no reasonable means of escape other than to leave the car which leads you back to the original problem where this man has already targeted you and fully intends to get away with his criminal acts even against you personally.

If you drive a car towards a LEO, he has the right to shoot you. If you drive a car towards me, so do I. If you intend to do serious bodily harm to me with a crowbar when I am randomly targeted being somewhere I have full right to be -- even if armed -- you are going to be the first opportunity I have to test that "rides like a dream even on bumpy roads" promise my car salesman gave me. And, I have the full right and intention to do so.

    Cheers.

    kempo ,

ref: Carrying without a permit within the city limits of las vegas you can carry concealed in your car withOUT a permit , just not on your person has to be in your car . and also u must have a blue card .

    i copied this from packing.org
    Car/Gun law summary
    Date updated: Aug 26, 2005 @ 6:34 pm

Nevada State Law is silent on motor vehicle carriage of firearms. Any law-abiding citizen may carry a handgun, loaded or unloaded, in their vehicle.

Some cities like North Las Vegas and Boulder City have "Deadly Weapon" laws, and you may be cited or arrested if you pass through their jurisdictions with a gun in the vehicle.

Also the school i attend does drills for this sort of thing. If you choose to shot to stop the threat remember to somehow cover your face from the glass that my end up in your eyes. They teach us too wrap your arm (weak hand) around your face just below your line of sight with your elbow facing your target.

I would say run him over! but it probably happened so fast for the driver ,as he/she was surprised sitting at the red light, it would take a few seconds to realize what is going on and how to react.
if he cleared my hood as he did there i probably would have shot him thru the window. illegal,,,maybe. would i be tried for something? i expect so. would it be justified? i say yes but that is up to a jury to decide and if i was on that jury i would acquit him or hang the jury to such a degree it would never be a verdict unless it was not guilty.

man these gang bangers are bold.,
this is the second video i have seen here where the guy just unprovokedly attacks.
pretty scary actually that society has declined to this degree but it further reinforces my mindset of "constantly armed".

I already drive a beat up escort, if he started banging away at my car, I would probably snap and say, "Thats IT!" and get my Maglite "Attitude Adjuster".

Seriously though, get my gun, run him over, or try to run him over while attempting to drive away from danger. But definitely NOT get out of the vehicle.

    Glockguy,
I stand corrected. I would then run over the M.F. then shoot him to put him out of everyones misery.

    Soundwave,

You bring up a good point about attacking the car=attacking the person. Not long ago, I think it was in WA, a guy shot at a car that was trying to run him down. IIRC he was decidedly shooting at the car, not towards the driver. NEway, he was charged with assault w/deadly weapon against the driver or something like that. Those who remember can fill in the pertinent details, but the bottom line is that, at least in some cases, a car can be considered an extension of the person when under attack.

    Dave.
