A punch can be fatal
When this guy was punched, his head was impaled on a wrought iron fence and he died. Just something to keep in mind as far as the debate about whether or not the threat of being punched by an attacker is serious enough to warrant drawing your gun:

Absolutely! There was also a referee in a home town soccer game that was punched by some punk that didn't like the call. What's wrong with people today?

Bare hands were the first offensive or defensive weapons used, and are still very effect today.

Hey Perfection: Do you remember the Wal-Mart employee up in the Knoxville area that punched the guy in the chest and he died? I forget the exact circumstance, but the customer became combative in the parking lot and the employee punched him (1) time in the chest and the assailant's heart stopped almost instantly. By the way, stay safe in Texas. I will be down that way soon as well.

Well, the "punch" didn't kill him. The iron fence did ... or the curb, rock or other hard/sharp thingy in question, as the case may be.

Something to keep in mind, as we hem and haw about relative benefits and risks of drawing on a violent assailant in avoidance of what's manifestly coming. Know our statutes to a "T." Be ready, willing and capable of responding accordingly, in defense of innocent life, to the degree necessary to avoid such dire threats. And be willing to have stout representation, should a vilification and trial ensue, that's sufficiently capable of making the case that a single punch can indeed be deadly.

Punch, choke, neck snap, throat rip, nut tap, ass grab, you name it. If any stranger tries to put hands on me without my permission they'll be staring at a little black hole. My next move is up to them. Then I'll call the cops and report the incident asap.

If I am punched or about to be punched, I consider that a lethal threat or threat of gross bodily harm. I have no idea why someone is punching me but apparently they are very angry or intent on a criminal act. One punch can easily disable me so that I am unable to defend myself, even draw my gun.
If I can escape, I certainly will but if I cant, I will assume the punch is just an opener for more to come.
I mean, if they're that angry or committing a crime...why would they stop at one punch? It could be fatal for me to assume that.

Heart punches are very effective even with 16oz gloves on, in my short boxing career I took a few and they really take a toll. My sensei taught me the art of heart punches but that was many years ago and as some have said hand to hand can and is deadly

Punches are especially deadly if you're old, fat, and slow.

Once I punched a guy right in the fist with my eye. It had little affect on him him so I proceeded to punch him again, this time I landed a shot square to his knee with my testicles.

I seem to remember my dad telling me (years ago) that someone he works with got punched in the chest and died. Faint memory though, and no clue of the guys' names.

Couple of years ago two women in Fayetteville got into a fistfight over a parking space. One woman punched the other who then fell hitting her head on a curbstone, she died the next day.
