Bad guy attempts to rob a gun store with a knife & baseball bat

This has to go into the dumb bad guy category, two days ago in the Portland Oregon area a not so intelligent bad guy walks into a gun store armed with a knife & a baseball bat. He then shatters a glass countertop with the bat and attempts to steal a handgun or two. Apparently this guy had not been in a gun store before because how many gun shops have you been in were everyone behind the counter does not have a weapon strapped to their side? You guessed it, this bad guy suddenly realized that there were several handguns now being pointed at him in condition 1. End of story; he was held by employees until the police arrived and gave him free temporary housing.

Such generous police officers to give this guy a place to stay... Obviously he lost his housing at the insane asylum...

If he had a gun, he wouldn't need to steal one!

I managed this store until June. The manager when this took place is a friend of mine. I spoke with him yesterday.

This criminal is incredibly stupid. The shop sits on a moderate-heavy traffic road, all of the company's staff (1-2 guys at most locations, 12 stores in the company) OC, multiple security cameras.

The criminal came in while the manager (alone that day) was in the very small back room, and smashed the case. The manager came out to see the bad guy holding a bat and gun. Bad guy is lucky the manager is a very cool headed, intelligent person.

The manager is doing well. No residual stress.

The man must have been a criminal. I hear most stolen guns are in the hands of criminals.

Seriously I wonder what would have happened if the man grabbed one or more guns and ran off. Would the employees shot him as he was fleeing? Would the law there allow for that?
    A 9mm might expand but a .45acp never shrinks.

Looks like he walked in on a full count and went down looking.

Law and everything else were irrelevant. If the BG attacked, the manager would have fired. Otherwise, the manager wasn't going to shoot.

The shop is one of 12 in a chain. The inventory is insured. The manager has people to get home to. Very easy decisions, in this case.

Yup, crooks are stupid. Would have loved to see his eyes once he realized he was covered, rather heavily too.
