Chasing and potentially tackling the baby snatching moron puts the child at a great risk of being crushed.
Dileberate shots, to the back if necessary. No questions asked.
The guy is dead, one way or another...
Part of me says chase him in an effort to avoid the risk of hurting the baby (either because of an errant bullet, or because he's going to drop the kid when he gets shot). The problem here is that you don't know how long you have. What if he's running toward his getaway car and you only have a few-second window to make the shot before he get's away.
Another possible problem with chasing him is the potential for a "hostage" situation. If this guy sees you chasing him with a gun, he may decide to turn and face you and use the baby as a shield. Now your chance for a clean shot has been diminished.
I would say, go ahead and take the shot when you have the chance. He may drop the child but if he gets away, you're probably never going to see your baby again.

If you carry in Condition 3, you have two empty chambers. One in the weapon...the other between your ears.
If I'm armed and he's in visual distance, he's getting stopped; if I'm unarmed and he's in visual distance, he's getting stopped. If I'm able. No way would I allow someone to take my child. Firing at him need not be center of mass. Feet, legs, hips ... all of these would stop his escape. Yes, a dropped child or falling on a child is a risk, but there's zero potential for survival if I allow his escape and the abduction.Man runs off with your baby, what to do?
Chase him down...get close enough to take the shot (to minimize the chance of missing)....grab the baby....then let my wife get her licks in as a slowly dial 9 -1 - (what's that number again?)
A few rounds in the rear or legs will slow em down enough anyone should be able to catch up.

Then stomp his face in.
bang, bang, bang repeat as required any person that would do that is without question a lethal threat to the child, at least a risk of grave bodily harm(dropped, thrown)
The bad guy gets it. Several or more times if needed.

I persue as far as possible (for me not far). I then take the shot.
This BG is obviously out for the baby here so the likely hood of seeing your child again safely are slim to none if he gets away.
I can't run fast but a 45acp can and I have 14 tries to catch him.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft!
