Nothing makes me madder
I am so sick of headlines like this one:
Teenager Russell Rios Shot And Killed for Shoplifting By Off-Duty Police Officer In Texas
He was not "shot and killed for shoplifting" he was shot and killed for attacking an off duty police officer. I truly wish there was some way to hold these so called journalist accountable for misleading headlines.

From the facts it appears to be a justified shoot. The investigation will either confirm or not. But yes, you are correct, it appears he was shot not for shoplifting but for putting an officer in fear of great bodily harm/death.

It's like the headlines that say "Man killed for stealing car," when in reality he had turned on the owner when the owner came out asking what was going on, pulling a knife and putting the citizen's life at grave risk. It wasn't because of the car, it was because of the deadly threat the felon chose to additionally force upon the citizen. Journalists mostly don't seem to get this, if given the choice to see it for what it is instead of what they feel the readership would prefer it to be. Spin, spin, spin.

There could have been a warning shot, there could have been another way.
Really, maybe the kid shouldn't have stolen the stuff or tried to fight and choke the officer.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

Shouldnt the headline read "Little Russell so & so..."?

Most media sources these days are in desperate need of any cash they can get. Most will not survive another 10 years. They will sensationalize any and all they can to get you to buy (in whatever form they sell) their product. They conveniently hide behind the 1st Amendment and the Courts give them virtually blanket protection. "Teenager Killed for Shoplifting" sells a lot more than the truth.

Almost exactly like Zimmerman. The difference is this kid isn't black so there won't be the racist card to play. Nothing for the news people to sink their teeth into.

There was, and it stopped the attack.

Among the quickest ways of getting a Darwin award is choosing to fight with a cop armed with a gun. Hopefully the kid died before reproducing anyone else with the "stupid gene".
(Darwin awards are given to those who die so stupidly that it improves humanities gene pool)

That's like the headline I saw a couple of days ago: "George Zimmerman pulled over in Texas for speeding and carrying a gun". If that's true, the officer must have had x-ray vision.
Actually, he was pulled over for speeding and he informed the officer that there was a pistol in the glove compartment - which was perfectly legal and the officer had no problem with it.

Love that 19-year old and still a youngster? My guess we'll probably see a future articles saying he was a good boy and got religion. I have very little respect for media journalism.

The headline should have been "Man tries to strangle cop, burns in Hell."
"Yet this government never of itself furthered any enterprise, but by the alacrity with which it got out of the way... The character inherent in the American people has done all that has been accomplished; and it would have done somewhat more, if the government had not sometimes got in its way."

I prefer "Good samaritan attacked by deranged shoplifter and forced to defend himself."
