    Question Poker night

Its Saturday night. After playing poker with buddies, you decide to call it a night. Its 9PM, and you have no alcohol in your system. Your buddy lives in the country about 30 miles from your house. His area is generally nice and seems safe, but you don't drive the route often. The night is very windy with a chill.

On starting your drive home, you recall there is a Gas Mart a few miles down the two-lane highway selling gas 15 cents a gallon cheaper than inside the city. The building sits in the back of a large asphalt lot, about 25 yards from the two-lane. Woods surround the place, there are no other buildings around. There are only two gas pumps as its a small operation. The pumps are 15 yards from the highway. The pumps and the building are lit-up, but the lot itself is dark in places because its so large. There are no other cars in the lot other than yours.

As you begin filling your tank, you glance over your shoulder and notice a white SUV pull into the lot and stop near the highway. The SUV parks an area not well lighted with the engine running and headlights on. From where you are standing, you have a pretty good view of the passenger side of the vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle are a different race than yours. Glancing again at the SUV, you are stunned to see the male driver with his hands around the throat of his female passenger. As you watch, you note the male seems to be screaming, and the SUV begins to rock with the force of the movements inside. You can't make out what is being said given the wind. As you move to within 10 yards of the SUV, the male notices you but continues his assault on his passenger. The female is pushed up against the passenger door and is sliding downward in her seat.

As luck would have it, your cell phone died earlier in the evening.

    What do you do?

First off, how boring am I that poker night is over at 9pm?

But your scenario seems like a clear-cut "someone is eminent threat of death or great bodily harm", so I am clearing leather (and/or Kydex) and trying my best to sound like a drill instructor barking orders.

My cell phone is dead, and from your description, I don't have a gun, a knife or a lighter. That means I can't call the cops, slice and dice him, or set him on fire. I guess I'll flail my arms about madly while screaming "hep, hep, somebody hep!!!" while running around in a circle.

I must be missing the part where he said I am unarmed in this scenario...

This happened to me. Its an isolated situation, not well lighted, gusty winds and no one else around. No one you can see in the store which is 20 -25 yards away. License plates aren't within view. No one on the highway. You can assume you are armed with what you carry everyday.

Tell the attendant to call the police and note a good description of the vehicle and occupants. Just because you have a handgun doesn't make you a police officer, and you have not been threatened or put into grave danger.

I briefly considered the "we aren't cops, be a good witness" option, but opted instead for one I haven't tried out before.

A fact lost on at least 1/2 of those carrying a gun today.

Who am i to judge? Some couples are "into that." But if you play that way, remember that "more" and "harder" are really bad safe words.

So then you'd watch a woman get strangled just because you aren't a cop? I'd have a hard time looking at myself in the mirror afterwards ( and I'm very attractive, so that would be a bitter pill).

    What do you do?
You: "You in the SUV. Get out with your hands up. Now!"
    SUVM: "F... you!"
You: "Last chance! I have a gun aimed at your head!"
SUVM: "Who the f... are you? I'm calling the deputy!"

2 minutes later, Bubba, the county deputy, arrives.

Bubba: "What you doing with this gun, boy?"
You: "The guy in the SUV was attacking the woman in the SUV. I intervened to save her!"
SUVF: "What the hell are you talking about? My man and I like it rough. We be gettin' it on for tonight!"
SUVM: "Bubba, this idiot pointed a gun at me!"
SUVF: "Bubba, your momma still feelin' poorly? I was over to her place yesterday to tend to her."
Bubba: "Yeah, Bernice, momma is still feelin' poorly."
Bubba: "City boy with the gun....you in a bunch of trouble, boy."
SUVM: "Take him in, Bubba. I'm filing charges!"
Bubba: "Let's go, boy. You're under arrest."

IDIOT!......you are NOT a law enforcement officer! Tell the clerk inside what you believe to be happening on their property, get in your car, and LEAVE. No one wants you to play hero. Mind your own business. Neither you or anyone in your family was ever in danger of serious bodily harm! Why the hell is your gun out of its holster??????
