Substitute the word "Cool" for "smart" and I'm your man.

My exact reason isn't up there, but it is because I am not going to let someone else take my life or the life of my family without being able to at least have a chance to fight back and protect myself.

I simply won't tolerate being a helpless victim. Not on my watch. I'm older and slower but the dog is still willing to bite back. Concealed carry = my teeth.

The general degradation of societal normal.

Unfortunately the window of acceptable behavior and what should (and should not) be viewed as a "role model" has drastically changed in recent years. Couple that with desperate people in a cascading failure of an economy and you have a perfect storm for violence and stupidity.

I carry because my kids rely on me to come home every night safely.

I've voted the last one...since it was the only one even remotely close. The real reason was to exercise my 2nd Amendment right. Period. End of story. But the gravy/icing on the cake was to have one more thing in common with my dad and brothers for us to have in common, talk about and do when we are together.

as a kid I remember my dad having guns, it was just our life. in adulthood my brother started to buy a few for home and work protection so I started up to have more to do with my brother, it just gives us something else to bond over. and if you watch the news enough I guess almost all of your choices to carry are good, except no one would want my car.... But in all seriousness, I refuse to be a willing victim.

I feel as FarSide feels. It's a combo reason too. Don't forget Murphy's Law.
Firing a suppressed is on my Bucket List.

I'm just a spoke in the wheel but not a big deal.

Probably the single biggest factor was an incident in uptown Minneapolis, in a decent neighborhood. A guy and his mother were walking along, and were robbed by muggers. They handed over their money, and then one of the muggers shot the guy in the head and killed him, for no apparent reason.

I've always believed that submitting to crime, in hope that the criminal is really a decent person who won't hurt you, is a lot more dangerous than they would have you believe. And, also, that bad guys don't stay in "bad areas." That story brought it home. Maybe someday I'll be murdered, but if I am, I intend to go out shooting, not to be executed.
"Yet this government never of itself furthered any enterprise, but by the alacrity with which it got out of the way... The character inherent in the American people has done all that has been accomplished; and it would have done somewhat more, if the government had not sometimes got in its way."
