From a legal standpoint, if a criminal is fleeing and you chase after them and shoot them, aren't you in the wrong?

Not exactly depends on your state's laws. Some states (Alabama) says you can use deadly force during the process of a 1st degree felony. Just because they're running away, doesn't mean that they can't turn around and return fire. My opinion your life is still in danger. The criminal is getting in a 1 ton weapon.

    Depends on the jurisdiction.

The criminal lucked out. In Vegas a guy tried to rob a DQ with a sword. Mr Glock ushered him out of this veil of tears.

If it is, it shouldn't be. It's time more business took this approach.

Depends on the statutes in the state in question. In some, yes; in others, no. The "fleeing felon" and "citizen's arrest" codes are generally "muddy" extensions of the basic use-of-force statutes. Can depend on the level of the crime that was witnessed, the likelihood of severe consequences to anyone nearby if the guy gets away, the measure of force required to stop him, etc. Know the statutes that apply to you.
