How many of you actively study self defense shootings across the country?

By this, I mean do you routinely search the web looking for incedents to study and try to learn from them. I often do a google news search
for key phrases such as "homeowner shoots burglar" or "homeowner shoots intruder". Do any of you do this, and if so, what key
    search terms do you use?

Most of the time, the stories don't have a lot of detail regarding the facts - "Bad guy did bad thing and got shot/run off"

It seems that the cases with a lot of information being reported seem to be ones that go to court, and are outliers.

I'll read what comes before me local news, or mentioned in a gun board, but that's about it.

. . . and my reply offers you no help whatsoever, because I gave you my reasons why I don't search.

But I did vote, and an interesting question.

No, I don't regularly do searches. I'll read about it here on the forums. The ones that get most of my interest are local ones, to see how the judicial system handles those situations - as a gauge of what would happen if I were involved in a shooting.

I actively search for them but I pay the most attention to the local ones. While the others may teach a lesson or two (which is great, I'm not discounting that) the local ones show the legal climate where I live.

So few, accurate details are in the reports that they serve little purpose other than keep a scoreboard.

What they said. News is mostly written by sensationalists and good SD shootings get very little, if any press.

Can you give a time and day it airs? I don't have that one set on my DVR.

The only ones I peruse are the ones in the NRA magazines my wife and I receive.

I get notifications from Google for home invasions and shootings. Those that contain a element of self defense get posted here in the "in the news" sub forum.

I get the Google updates as they happen. Meaning, as they become news items.

I don't see any need to do this when I can just log on to DC and see four or five duplicate threads in detail within the space of a day after a noteworthy defensive shooting.

Well there's always a thing. And the thing is... whats reported in the papers almost always has little resemblence to what really went down.

I read the NRA's Armed Citizen as well. I also make it a point to keep an eye on local crime stories. It's best to know what is happening in the immediate vicinity.
