    Strong Arm

What is the phrase "Strong arm" I am ambidextrous and practice with both hand at the range. Now back
to "Strong arm" is it a case of holding someone at the point of your gun while your other hand is dialing 911 or pushing your family away with your strong arm while you pull your pistol with the other hand?
Still learning terminology I'm thinking a tactical course down the road is in my future.
    Please advise

It refers to a person's dominant hand. Although I'm not technically ambidextrous (can't write worth a flip with my left hand), I can do almost anything else with either hand...including shooting.

I'm assuming what your referring to is strong hand versus weak hand. If so it refers to which hand you normally do something with. Most people are either right or left handed. For a right handed person, normally their right hand is their strong hand.

Things like holding a flashlight or working your phone would be relegated to your weak hand. Also pushing someone to safety would also be done with your weak hand.

In your case, being ambidextrous, I guess it would depend on what works best at a given time.

With a holstered sidearm, I've always thought of it as the "gun" hand you draw with. So, if carrying on the right hip and drawing RH, the RH is the "strong" hand. But if it's cross-draw and drawing LH, then it's LH.

Like you, I practice with both hands, though my belt holsters are almost exclusively on one side of the hip. Not being ambi, I definitely have a stronger hand.

"Strong Arm" is also a term used in slang to describe a forcible, armed (like in use of a lethal weapon) robbery.

I'm thinking that you really, really don't want to practice that

If some one says" think fast" and tosses a rock to you. Which hand automatically catches it?

ooh, that's a good question. Especially since you typically wear a baseball mitt on your left hand if you throw righthanded (your strong arm).
I think I'd catch a rock weak arm on impulse.

    Strong = dominant.
Think about which hand you wipe... the sweat off your brow with

Careful with that. I'm strong-handed on the right, but my preferred catching and blocking is done weak-hand. I've found that true with a number of folks.

My noggin! Just joking. Great illistration/point you are making.

I always consider my Strong Arm as the one with the weapon (left or right handed = I shoot both) for that particular stance/instance.
