The USAF and USA regard the max effective range of the M9 as 50 meters.

Probably a non-gun person reporter who took crappy notes thought it up.

Edited to add: I was active duty when this happened and it was reported in the media nothing like the police report.

Yeah, I mentioned it here a couple days ago:

I gave a brief shout out to Andy the other day. He is a member here, but doesn't post much.

I don't recall hearing much about this at the time it occurred, possibly because it was a scant ten days after the OJ circus rolled into town.

Elmer Keith could consistently hit targets at insane distances with a pistol and killed an elk at over 600 yards with a 4 inch barrel revolver.

Yeah, it does sound excessive for a 9mm don't it?

Except it was a deer and not an elk. Big difference in the thickness of the hide. It also too multiple shots with a .44 Mag to do it.

2 hits out of 4 rounds fired at 200+ feet was some good shooting. I'm sure there was some luck involved in it as well.

How many rocks was he allowed to have in his ammo pouch? Can't have people armed with slings with unlimited access to rocks.

I am saddened to read that the young airman suffered from PTSD after doing his duty and stopping the shooter.

He is a hero and I hope that he has come to terms with his actions and understand that his was a righteous action with no guilt required.

As someone that has never had to use my firearm for self defense, I can only hope that I would be able to do so if necessary.

As an Air Force Veteran, I salute Airman Brown and his service to this country and his fellow man.

David was not the innocent little shepherd boy your Sunday School teacher told you about. He had already killed a lion and a bear with his sling. He was a bad dude!

He just wanted a couple of mounts on the cave wall.
