    Legality of Ballistic Vests

I was told by a friend/classmate of mine that is legal to own a Ballistic garment in NJ, is this true?

Are there any restrictions such as not being able to travel with it?
If anti-gun legislators truly believed that guns kill people, the guns would be on the witness stand and the assailent would be holding the "Exhibit A" sign.

The only restriction I have ever heard of is it is illegal for felons to own them.

i've only heard of it being illegal for felons to own as well. And I also think that you cannot legally possess a current issue military vest, and you can't sell one either. orders of the department of defense.

    In FL

Here in FL, and some other states, posession of a "bulletproof vest" is not illegal, but using one in comission of a crime carries an enhanced penalty. Same thing with a Haloween mask, actually. Florida's definition includes just about anything ballisticly rated, such as a flak jacket or old level I vest.

    Post Additional Info: ~

It is against the law for a felon to possess Body Armor under both Federal law and State law.

It is legal for normal citizens to own body armor in all 50 States.
However, residents of Connecticut are prohibited from buying body armor unless it is a face to face sale or you are active military or police.

I thought I heard that in NY State it was illegal for a citizen to own or wear body armor, but I could be wrong. (If true, it IS B.S., though.)

This may be a bit of a stretch but, can you wear on outside/while traveling?

Once again, all I can say is "friends don't let friends take internet legal advice." Check local law for yourself, or talk to a local attorney.

I own a pair of ballistic vests and wear them from time to time if I'm going to be out late in rougher neighborhoods, especially since I don't yet have my CCW. It's completely legal here in MI, at least. I wear a level II with no problems.
