Moaning by a dumpster
Didn't know where to put this - I hope this is the best place.
Mobile, Alabama - didn't see this in the news - heard it from someone at work.
Kid (dunno if teen or younger) walking to school or walking to school bus
Heard someone moaning beside or behind a dumpster asking for help
Walked over saw a man laying there holding his hand up for help to get up
Kid reached out - helped the man up - as the man was rising he popped open a knife - touched the blade to the boy's cheek and demanded money
Kid gave what he had on him and BG let him go
This was told to me to be true. Even if it didn't happen - it certainly sounds possible.
Barnickles! - you want to help someone in need and look what you have to consider now. Shame you can't trust anyone anymore. Have to always be wary.

People always have to consider things like this, though most choose not to. Look on the bright side: there's now one more person who will think accordingly.
In this sort of situation: someone wants help up, off the ground. Being on the ground isn't going to kill him. Getting up immediately isn't going to change his lot in life. If he's unable to get up, then likely either medical or police attention is what he needs, not mine. Getting within contact distances of someone I don't know ... on his say-so? I wonder what the cool, new term for "being set up" is, in school these days.
Invariably, people bent on such face-to-face person crimes like this knife-wielding perp meet their match. He's going to die violently in a gutter, if he's not careful, when someone refuses to be made a victim because of his callous actions.
Your best weapon is your brain. Don't leave home without it.
Thoughts: Justifiable self defense.
Explain: How does
disarming victims
reduce the number of victims?

Hopefully...
With the right victim, this BG WILL be on the ground and moaning...next to a dumpster...someday (soon)...

I've said it before and I'll say it again. "Crazies come in all shapes and sizes." I'm glad the kid made it out all right. Maybe next time the kid will call 911 and get the heck out of there.
