    Question SHTF?

OK, so we see all these threads mentioning SHTF scenarios which lead up to BOB's, stock piles of ammo and escape routes.

While I know what SHTF means, exactly what do "we" consider to be SHTF scenarios?

Obviously a Katrina type scenario apples, but what else?

    Lets hear it.

In my mind it would be any sort of natural disaster, military attack or civil unrest that would lead to a temporary (in most cases) breakdown of normal societal function.

Not that I ever really rely on the government for support, but anytime that it would be pretty certain thing they had lost control and couldn't support society for a time.

In a loose sense I guess we refer to ''when things go south''!! It is not something CC wants to get into in great depth taken to its most literal and extreme meaning - i.e. breakdown of, well - everything! I know we do discuss BOB's etc but perhaps more with a view to basic survival approaches and first aid etc - dealing with weather, power outages etc.

Back to the looser sense then, perhaps it lies between the Katrina extreme and simply being ''in trouble'' - meaning we have to fight our way out of ''something''.

If I was inescapably cornered in a threat scenario - I will admit that for me the S very much has HTF So - it can IMO be relative, across the board.

Mayor power outages, gas (for cars) shortages and loosing running water would be the most common; usually right after a hurricane, earthquake or wildfire. Also, relocations due to industrial chemical spills or maybe a terrorist NBC attack (i.e. backpack nuke, biological contamination of a town's water reservoir, etc).

..I'm an apartment dweller in an urban area, so potentially a riot could be a possibility for SHTF, but much more likely a weather incident or the fact that I live about 1 mile (and downwind) from a major rail artery would cause a bug-out situation.

Here in Western Washington State an Earthquake in the 8 or 9 level would make this a situation SHTF in this area. People will be stranded all over with collappsed bridges and overpasses. There could be floods from broken dams or caused by obstruction of flow. Each comunity would be dependant withinitself.

The next large quake for this area is expected to be between 8 and 9.

The only way I would know the S hit the fan is if I read it on a forum , lol . I live far enough out in the stix that it really wouldn't effect me much . I get power outages etc as it is , so wouldn't seem out of the ordinary if I lost power for a few days . Probably still show up to work just to find out something "major" happened. That said , pretty sure where I live would be one of the last places that "mobs" or "looters" would be heading. Zombies on the other hand ..................

You mean like when I held my AK on two guys that were trying to steal my generator after hurricane Isabel knocked the power out for 10 days?

    That's SHTF

Here in the Ozarks we would add killer possums and angry armadilloes. Either or which could cause a bugout situation.
We will be much better off when we learn to deal with things as they really are, instead of how we wish them to be!
