Well, if you're a female officer & you're going to "purse carry" a firearm & then "Condition White" allow your purse to get snatched & then chase the bad guy & then have him pull a multiple trigger on you - and then allow THAT to happen again & then get punched and kicked...well then I guess you had best carry your off duty firearm very empty - on your way to your Comprehensive Officer Training Classes.

This was one of my BIGGEST gripes with the NRA's publication for women (Woman's Outlook)... endorsing the act of "off body carry" by running ad after ad for concealment purses. The journalists were mostly women, the editors are women, for crying outloud the PRESIDENT of the NRA is a woman...you think they'd KNOW better!

Sounds kinda strange, there may have been some other factors involved.

Heh heh, back when I worked armed security, we had a contract for a methadone clinic. NOT my favorite assignment. One day I noticed my partner did not have any cartridges in her company issued revolver. I pointed this fact out to her. She told me that she never keeps it loaded off duty and had forgotten to load it. We stare at each other for about 15 seconds.

    I say, "Well load it."

    "Now?"

Steam begins to come out of my ears. "Yes, NOW."

So I escort her to an unused room in the building and watch her load up. I thought I was going to have to show her which end went in first!

YEAH...... I sent the article to my wife last night and she wrote back... "SEE THATS EXACTLY WHY I DON"T CARRY IN MY PURSE AND IT"S ALWAYS LOADED!" I love that woman! lol It's probably a more common occurance than we can imagine and also why I harp so boldly against it in all my classes.... Keep it close (on your body) and keep it loaded!

But OH MY GOD.... a LEO with a unloaded gun? What is the law enforcement community comming too?

Amen on what Tom G said. If my wife carried in her purse, he gun probably wouldn't fire due to all the gum wrappers and such in the bottom of the purse.

Good posiblity; however maybe she gave chase because she knew it was unloaded.

I believe the idea is a gun in your purse is better than a gun at home. The real problem in this scenario is that she wasn't paying attention and the guy got the drop on her. The second is that she didn't have a backup gun on her person.

My old lady carries that way. A 9mm in her holster purse and a .32 on her body. She dresses with modern fashion so well, a .32 is about all she is going to conceal well.

I'm not the biggest fan of purse carry, but I'm an even less of a fan on a gun that's not carried at all.
