The other thing I forgot to mention was while I was waiting to see if anything else was going to happen, I did kinda crawl to where my gun was at. I didn't take it out of the drawer yet, I was just near it so in case those bullets were really for me.

Today, I asked my dad if he remembered hearing the shots. He had a surprised look on his face and said, "what?!". I told him what happened. He then told me, "now, just because you have a gun doesn't mean you can be rambo, okay?" I told him that I ducked like I was in a war zone. He laughed and said, "yeah, I would've done the same".

I figure that taking cover and preparing to defend your self is the correct course of action.

that's how i see it. your not a coward if you have too seek cover until you know what's going on. how can you react properly if you don't know what is really going on. get a foot hold, then assess.

i hope you had your piece on you or real close when this happened. if so, one less thing to worry about. if not, i bet you do now.

I would have done the same. I would rather not get shot because of some SOB outside my place shooting.
Like others said, just make sure you are armed if possible.
