Woman robbed while pumping gas for gas

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,278117,00.html

SALT LAKE CITY — A woman was held up during a fill-up.

The woman was pumping gasoline at a station south of downtown Sunday morning when a man stuck something in her back, told her it was a gun and ordered her to start filling up his sport utility vehicle instead of her own car, said Salt Lake City police Detective Jared Wihongi.

"This is definitely not common," Wihongi said Monday.

The woman put $15 worth in the other vehicle's tank before her debit card reached its limit.

Wihongi said surveillance video at the station showed two men in a large, white sport utility vehicle with Wyoming license plates. They could face aggravated robbery charges.

The woman was so shaken up by the incident she didn't call police until about three hours later.
Just a reminder to stay alert while at the pump, since it can be a pretty vulnerable spot. With gas prices people are sure to try all sorts of crazy tricks to try to get gas cheaper, and for BG's that could include robbery.

At least they only got 15 bucks, which theses days is what, 4 gallons? Good for maybe 50 miles for them.

And Dial-A-Prayer doesn't usually do a lick of good when you call it 3 hours after the armed robbery occurs.

Gas stations these days have the potential for trouble much as do ATM facilities ......... in fact, what we have to remember really is - ''anytime, anyplace''. "Expect the unexpected".

This predicates the ever necessary awareness, much of which can help at least in part to remove the 'victim label' so many seem to offer up. Con' white is way too good an ad' for ''rob me'' these days.

    +1 to P95

Watch out at gas stations. There are also cars pulling away rapidly to avoid paying at the pumps. In our area, several of the gas stations have had "pump-and-run" drivers at least once a day.

Hopefully nobody ever gets the drop on me like this but I know I would be on the phone to the cops as the creep pulled away giving them their license #. 3 Hours later is way too late.

Just move to Oregon. Don't have to get out of your car for gas!

Seriously, how do people not get license plate numbers or anything? I just think people are so clueless about what is going on around them that everything is a surprise. Being in code yellow and on some level of alert at all times can be the complete difference.

While I fueled up today, some woman had paid $20.00 for gas, but got $30.00 and drove off. I guess the pump was set for manual shutoff.

If someone tries to rob you while you're pumping gas, you've already got a weapon in your hand. Use it! A fuel nozzle sprays a pretty focused, high volume of gasoline. A shot in the face will blind and soak the attacker. About $3.50 ought to stop them

With these gas prices it'd take at least $4.00.

Keep in mind that, if he is armed and squeezes off a shot, things may get *real* entertaining. He's going to be in far worse shape than you, but there's a fairly decent possibility of ending up with a blowtorch in your hands.

I'd think a nice soaking with gas should dissuade them from anything further.

She was SO SHOOK UP SHE DIDN'T CALL POLICE FOR 3 HOURS!

I find that totally incredulous! I am guessing she may have to be institutionalized for a while over this!

I can just about gurantee that she is one of those who feels absolutely No One should have a Gun! Wow...

I would think that she should be the poster child for "Condition White" and fear it won't be the last time she is victimized.

    Sad, sad, sad....

So if the attacker has a gun and you soak them with gas you may also get a Pyhrric victory if they pull the trigger. The gas should turn them into BG flambés rather quickly.

Last time the gas went up real high I swopped out the gas cap on my truck to a locking one, I keep about $60 in the tank so I thought a $10 gas cap was a cheap fix to a potentially expensive problem.
