Garland: Juvenile in jail on robbery charge; man recovers in hospital

A Garland grocery store owner who was shot in the hand and stomach tackled his 16-year-old assailant and held him late Saturday night until officers arrived, police said.
Andy Mistry, 43, was recovering Sunday after surgery at Parkland Memorial Hospital, said his wife, Anila.
Mr. Mistry and his 18-year-old son were closing A&M Food Store in the 300 block of South Barnes Drive about 11:45 p.m. when a teenager approached, Ms. Mistry said.
"They were ready to go home. They were about to leave, and he just came in and said, 'Give me the money,' " Ms. Mistry said. "He stuck the gun out and started shooting it.
"He didn't give any warning or nothing. He just started shooting," she said. She said her husband had no choice but to grab the assailant.
Police arrived a short time later and arrested the suspect, said Garland police spokesman Joe Harn, who declined to identify him because he's a juvenile.
He was charged with aggravated robbery and was being held Sunday at the Dallas County juvenile detention center, Officer Harn said.
The robbery was the first in the 16 years the family has owned the business, Ms. Mistry said.

argh... wouldve been a real shame if the weapon in question had accidentally been turned on the attacker.....
wouldve saved some taxpayers' $$, in the long run, though....

Good job Mr. Mistry. I hope he considers arming himself for the next time some punk decides he looks like an easy mark. He may not be so lucky again.
One more bit of proof that you never know if the guy is going to shoot you, whether you do what he wants or not. Compliance isn't worth the risk.

Don't know if having a gun would have changed things as this seemed to go down pretty fast. 16 Years without a robbery but I bet he thinks about arming himself now. All it takes is one close call usually.
