    Gone for the holidays?

I'm just curious, knowing that most people are going to be gone over the holidays visiting family and what not, what are some of the things you are doing to secure your home? I'm not going anywhere, but I was wondering how many people think about this when leaving.

I was thinking about this as well. Just glad I pick up my new AK on Friday.

I live on a college campus and I'm going to be around most of the break. I'm really glad too because I think I heard someone trying to bump key my lock on Sunday. Luckily I was in my apartment at the time. Once I heard the key go in the door I had my gun drawn at the ready. They bugged out when I shouted at them. I've spent the rest of the week with a chair shoved into the door to secure it a little better.

So I guess that's my answer. I put a chair under the door and a gun on my hip. It's really too bad that I have to stay here and guard my stuff and can't go home but I guess that's the world we live in.

We do live in a crazy world. I mean the fact that people are breaking in while people are home is insane, not to mention half the other crap that happens.

most my stuff is in my apartment at school.
need to go through 2 locked doors to get in. and thankfully the outside one doesnt look at all like the entrance to where an apartment would be.
not to mention theres nothing there worth taking.
laptop and gun came home with me as usual

I just sit in the dark with all the lights off and just wait for those meth-crazed drunks to come wet their pants when I flash the lights on.

Actually, at home, but would do the normal Ft. Knox routine if not.

Above-and-beyond alarm system. Ran across a good deal when I was having it installed.

Haven't done the light timers for awhile, maybe I should.

Friend picks up newspapers in yard, etc.

I never park outside the garage, so no one call tell by the vehicles whether we are home or not.

I'm here and cooking a little early so I won't have to tomorrow.

Already got the Deviled eggs done and the Cranberry salad.

Trying to thaw out the 13 pound freeby turkey I got at work.

I'm going to have a lot of leftovers. LOL!!!

It would be nice if it wasn't so darn cold here. It was so nice yesterday and tomorrow it might even snow!

Might have to pull out the M38 and M44 tomorrow if it does snow so they will be happy. LOL.

If I go out of town, I need someone to take care of the dog. I usually give a good friend of mine they key and ask him to stay there for a few hours a day to give the dog attention. I also like to leave the TV on so it sounds like someone is there. Usually if a BG sees someone in and out of there every day at random times, they willl pick somewhere else to go. A full grown German Shepherd is also a pretty good deterant.

Seldom leave...traveling on Thursday, just for the day. I don't worry too much...neighbors and safes help create less worry.

we have 3 vehicles and when we leave, 2 are here and it looks like someone is home. Motion lights are also a big help at night. Gald I have a safe for the guns and a safe in that safe for the important stuff...if we go anywhere, its not for long, no over night stuff.

    Road Trip

Neighbors and safes for me too. Lights, including Christmas lights on a timer, motion light outside. Neighbor picking up mail and keeping lookout (with Benelli and Glock) Double checking all locks and safes, and keeping my usual low profile as seen through the windows. no safes or expensive stuff visible from outside, no obvious gun stuff out, etc.
