Other other hand, if you are CHL, there may be a civic responsibility to wait, assess the situation further and render aid -- (At least that was the argument made to many legislatures to get passage of CHL laws).

That was my first thought when I heard about it. Kind of eerie.

Mall shooting: What would you do?

All of us on this forum probably agree that legal concealed carry in the mall in Omaha might have made a difference provided someone would have been close by and reacted appropriately. I have wracked my brain thinking of what my action would have been. Granted, if I had been within 10-20 feet of the perp, I hope that I wouldn't have hesitated to draw my weapon and react (yes, I would still carry in a mall even if it was posted otherwise). What if one was more than that distance? If you had been 15-20 yards or more away, would you have tried a long shot, taking into consideration that you may hit an innocent person? Would you have tried to work your way closer? Or, would you feel fortunate that you were not in the line of sight to this person and taken you and yours out of harms way? This is really bothering me.

Assuming I had identified the shooting as shooting I would be either escorting my wife out or going to find her. My responsibility is to her safety first. If I am feeling that my/our life is under a direct threat by this guy with a gun I would shoot him. No badge, no police written on his clothes somewhere, too bad. My perception is he is the shooter, not a good guy. I suppose the same could be said of me if some other CC person were to see me gun the first guy down. We could have a real chain-reaction couldn't we? But seeing as how CC is not a large percentage of the population around here I would take my chances on that.

It is really hard to say what one will do until it is time to react. Thinking about what you would do is one think your prior training goes into effect and most people just react the way they were trained. in this case I would look for the nearest barricade and see where the fire is coming from. If with my family I will protect them at all cost. Just my thoughts.

After further thought, I'm finding it more important to find some decent body armor.

That is my family plan. Also don't forget that most stores have a rear exit out to a hallway/loading area that easily exits from there. I am not there to protect the sheep, my family needs me and they are my concern.

Sorry to say I know the book, Tom Clancy Teeth of the Tiger or something like that, but theres just not enough info to make a decision. A man moving with a gun in such a scenario could be an Officer or an armed citizen getting out of the way. What would I do? take cover gather intelligence and be prepared to be a good witness, and only use my firearm in defence of my life or that of another innocent civilian.

Body Armor is a option for yourself but what about your family? Another thought is a trained "sniper" will most always go for a head shot. I am sure I would find cover for me and my family first. Then I would call 911 on my cell, not take any action unless I had a clean shot at the perp.

I read this in one of Ayoob's books, still think it is risky.
Find a good solid surface to hide behind, have the perp(?)
in your sights. Yell police! Freeze!
If the fellow throws up his hands, you partner up, if he swings the weapon towads you it's open season.

Ayoob says it is legal, you are calling for the police, I'm not a lawyer nor did I sleep in a major hotel chain last night...

That has my vote. Not enough information to act beyond getting myself and mine to relative safety.

You could just hunker down behind the nacho machine in case it takes a while. Good cover would be that tub of cheese, no rounds can pass all the way through that.

There is really not enough information for any kind of answer with this given scenario... none the less, I'm not shooting just anyone who has a visible gun unless I am witnessing them executing innocent people and working their way towards me in this given scenario.

Also, in this given scenario where you have multiple shooters and it appears to be some sort of terrorist incident, I am looking for a WAY OUT of the building, and pronto! My gun will be used to defend myself and family while I am looking for an escape.

If it is a terrorist group, I am going to be thinking that they had something more sinister planned for a shopping mall than to just go in and shoot it up.

I'm thinking their initial intention may have been for a planned release of some sort of nasty chemical or biological weapon or an explosive weapon, if not a dirty bomb and the shooting only broke out because something happened to disrupt their initial plan.

Either way, the place to be is anywhere besides inside the mall and therefore I'm looking for a way to the outside.

Therefore my firepower is going to be restricted to being used on BG's I may encounter who may try to block my escape to the outside!

Without the rest of my tac team there, I am woefully ill prepared to deal with trying to take on a "group" of unidentified shooters! My name IS NOT John McClaine!

Again, there's really not enough information in this scenario for any sort of decent response plan for posting in the forum.
