Paranoia... And a bad result of not being paranoid...

When going to the local range, which is out in the booies, I always keep one sidearm on my person and loaded. When going far downrange I often carry a rifle with ammunition on my person and am always talking with the people I am with about other people around us... I guess I am not as paranoid as my friends used to think...

Geez - and I thought the public range in the Ocala (FL) National Forest was stocked with a bunch of idiots.....Ocala's local yahoo crowd is tame compared to those two experiences!

We had several incidents at a public range in the boonies more than once people would leave their guns on the tables to go set targets and the yahoos next to them would grab their guns and take off,I never went without a buddy and I always had a loaded pistol on my hip.

    I am fortunate.

I can shoot at my brothers place and another place by myself and spouse.....multi targets at varying angles and distances AND

I can shoot at ranges which are strictly managed.

I am not stuck with places like this.

I always take a friend, and for another reason predominately: in case there is an accident and I can't get someplace to get help. This is an added bonus of having friends with me though.

Yet another reason I pay $$$ to belong to a private shooting range...coded gate...instructor/guard lives on site.

I always have a weapon IWB while I'm there...I have no problem being the only one there...

My local private range is $30/yr. I see no reason to go to the public ranges. Lots of nuts out there.

$100 a year for the cheaper of the two clubs around here. However, there is something in the works to make any fire arm discharge illegal in the area, not sure how it will affect the range, as this pertains to home owners on their own property.

Got a link to that? Is vcdl trying to do anything about it?

No, it was in the paper a couple of days ago, I'll try to get one.
I have not been on the vcdl site to see if they are aware.

I would think an established business is not covered, as I understand the restriction would be for home owners only. There are already limits on the range.

I've thought about it since often I have over ten thousand in guns with me. I guess a well placed rifle shot is always a possibility; but, I don't worry it. When we shoot, we always have one person off the range for backup. Paranoia, maybe, but safe.

I just started to shoot at an outdoor range the other day, that is free because it's on government property being run by the department of natural resources (this also mean that I can't legally carry on their property due to the Georgy Public Gathering type laws.) I can't carry while at this range, and carrying a gun while going down range is against the range rules.... so the only thing I can hope for is an atemptive range officer.

Records shed light on lives of suspects - Huntington, WV -- The Herald-Dispatch
An update on the story... Just to throw it out there, there have been three other shootings in my town since this happened - unrelated to this one.

My hometown now has that big city feel... Of course the thugs up in Detroit running drugs apparently call it Moneyton instead of Huntington.

This thread made me chuckle because when I go shooting I always have a pistol on my side, too. My wife thinks I'm nuts, but I guess others do it too. LOL
