I think if I ever went back to Iraq or Afghanistan, I would always save a last round for me. I've seen the video's of captured US soldiers being beheaded, I'm not going that way.

All options are entertained, in my mind.
For example in the Poseidon Adventure, old version, Shelly Winters dies upon drowning as she swam attempting to help save the others. She gave her life so that others might live. I could do that if the situation were dire and immediate.
But following Lima's example, i just don't know. That's akin to the prison cafeteria rape scene in 'American Me'. Do you take it and suffer greatly, or attempt to swallow your own tongue. What if there is torture guaranteed and your mind has State secrets that must never be told?
All options are entertained.

I don't like this thread at all on this site...for many reasons.
We are supposed to do everything we can in defense of ourselves and our loved ones. If there is one bullet left and we can continue to defend ourselves, we should do so.
Speak softly, and carry a big stick.

It all depends on the situation. But generally no, I would be fighting till the end.
I can however think of some scenarios where that could definately be an option. Hopefully no one here will ever have to find themselves there.
Take the people out of the situation, and althought I don't live in Africa, I could not see being eaten by a pride of lions or a pack of hyiena with only one round left in my gun.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.www.ddchl.com

In my training, I have been cautioned not to try to count rounds. I don't think you could do it in a gunfight anyway; too much other stuff to be concerned with.
Like the Dirty Harry movie:
"I know what you're thinking: 'Did he fire six shots or only five?' But to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I've kinda lost track myself. But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?"

In a fight...no. But if facing death...we all have a specific fear of a particular cause of death. For me it is drowning...

I've seen the movie referred to in the original post. I didn't take from it that the girl was giving up. It was a cutural thing. Not to allow shame on her family. She opted for an honorable death to her.
She assumed to traditional position of a samuri when she died.
That said I can think of times when it would be preferable to die by your own hands. Hard to say in advance.

None of us will ever know the answer until the moment arrives. If I had to rather than be captured, I'd prefer to save a grenade to do it with so I could take a few of them with me.
When you've got 'em by the balls, their hearts & minds will follow. Semper Fi.

Speculation aside, I doubt it, but I don't think I can accurately say until I am truly faced with the pressure in real-life.

You ever seen Carlito's Way?
He runs out of ammo completely, racks the slide on his gun a few times to act like he reloaded, then starts cursing up a storm like hes gonna come out of the bathroom guns blazing..
I would never save one for myself. Unless the BG knew my gun specifically, he has no clue how many bullets I have in the mag. If there are multiple bad guys, and I had one bullet, and they were closing in.. I would shoot one in the chest, and threaten the others in hopes they see what the outcome may be if they continue their assault.
I just never see myself going out like that. I will be fighting until I can't fight anymore.
