    Mumbai in US?? (Merged)

With the terror attacks in India this past week, I can't help but wonder how long till it happens here? Will it happen here? I believe it could, but we have a big advantage-we'll shoot back, provided the right people are in the right place at the right time. Thoughts?

It's only a matter of time before the next attack, personally I think it will be a nuke detonated in a private plane for air burst effect over the Kansas City, KS and Kansas City, MO...

I'm thining more specifically a mass shooting. I'm sure we'll be attacked again in some shape or form, but what about something like lots of guys with guns in crowded, populated spaces?

I think it will be a mall, lots of women and kids, and in a lot of cases "Gun Free Zones"

If some knucklehead kids can take out a dozen, imagine what the jihadists could do.

Earlier this afternoon I was reading through some blogs on this very subject. I must give credit to another individual as he posted the following...

"The simple fact is that there's not enough police in any city in the world to deal with a multi-point attack like this. Which means if the bad guys get through the screen and into the country, they're half-way there to a successful attack. And considering the lack of enthusiasm by a lot of amnesty-minded socialists in DC, getting into this country isn't going to be all that difficult. Especially with the drug gangs in Mexico quite happy to help anyone in, with whatever equipment they have, for the right price. And a lot of Mexican officials happy to look the other way so long as the terrorists only attack us lousy Americans."

    I'm afraid I must agree.

I can see many smaller attacks all at once all over the nation. When I say smaller I don't mean 3 or 4 people, but 100 to 200 victims in a dozen or so cities all at the same time, schools and malls.

Darn JD, the lack of sleep is making you such an optimist

I think BG's would love that, but I wonder if they can really pull it off. First, acquire or build it, get it into the USA, get a plane....pretty complex, but again, plausible........

Reminds me of The Sum of All Fears

I'd guess it'll be a combination of separate events timed to have the maximum impact over a broad geographic area, say, bombings in SF, LA, Chicago, Houston (refineries), Dallas, Denver, NY and Miami.........subway attacks ditto, and then Mumbai type attacks in smaller cities like KC, Cincinnati, Omaha, Louisville, to illustrate we're all at risk. I don't really know. They will strive to have a "News Gripping" event over several days........A lot of complex organization required, but Mumbai was obviously well planned and well executed.

Maybe Sarin type attacks too, or biologicals.........

Darn, now I'm getting optimistic too!

If something like this happens in the US, I just pray there's one or two CCW holders there who can make a huge dent in the body count. This is our worst nightmare. If terrorists go into the Mall of America and gun down 200 people, the blame will be placed squarely on "guns"... The national reaction would likely create a dream scenario for the anti's. The only hope to offset that would be a few private citizens there to show how useful it is for law abiding citizens to be armed when an event like that takes place.

It's easier to make the "if more law-abiding sorts were armed...." argument on the backdrop of a real situation rather than a hypothetical. We always lose when it's hypothetical.

Is that when all the 'anti's' run crying into a corner begging for their lives?

I am not sure it'll happen here.
I'd rather be optimistic, I'll sleep better

Why ? It seems that the attack in Mumbai (Bombay for the old guys) were able to be carried out partly because of a breakdown in intelligence gathering.
The performance of the police and the SWAT teams were less than stellar; it doesn't surprise anybody who spend some time there.
A large part of the population is Moslem.

I believe we have had many more aborted attacks here than we know of, even though in 2000 our intel was in bad shape.
After 9-11 we have made huge progress and the terrorists know it.
    Consequently they attack softer targets.

I can see a major conflagration with Iran in a very near future 1-2 years (it'll be good for our economy too); compared to that the Iraq war will seem like a walk in the park.
Hopefully we will prevail and terrorism will be put on hold for number of years for lack of financing and support.

The second rule: "Bring enough gun"

I think that they're having a problem getting into the states, so they're looking for Americans and Brits elsewhere.
As far as them hitting in the U.S. it's just a matter of time. I think many small attacks across the country but, at the same venues ie. gas stations, malls, restaurants.

I would say the terrorist would go for gun free schools like they did in Russia a few years back. Hit multiple schools, rig the buildings with explosives, rape and murder the kids for max shock value. Plant bombs in the parking lots to hit panicking parents that rushed to the scene. In raging the American population which in turn goes violently after any one who even looks middle-eastern. Thus accomplishing their mission of starting a war.

I hate this crap. I really do. The fact that we're talking about it at all, and that we consider it in the least bit plausible, is itself a threat to us in so many ways. For one, "they are in our midst" is the justification for warrantless wiretaps and who-knows-what-future-domestic-surveillance. It's very Orwellian and utterly typical for the gov't to justify spying on their own people using this "they are in our midst" fear tactic. When you couple that with the tendancy to want to ban guns, which may be given a new approach with "it's too easy for the terrorists in our midst to get guns," you create an unarmed surveillance state. This was Orwell's worst nightmare.

We need to be vigilant of these things:

    • An armed populace is a defense against terrorists "in our midst," not an aid to them. I will bet anyone any amount of money that they will have to make this argument sometime within the next 10 years.
    • A surveillance state only means we have a government watching the people instead of watching over the people.
    • A populace in fear will do damned near anything to feel safe, even if it's only the illusion of safety.

It just totally dawned on me this evening that anti-gun sorts can use Mumbai as an argument to disarm us. Using the "availability of guns" argument. We should be trumpeting how an armed populace might have dramatically changed the outcome in India. India suffers from strict british-style (imposed by the brits, actually) gun control. Yet it contains 100's of millions of illegal weapons. By default, they have what we know could happen here -- Only bad guys have guns, and they have a hell of a lot of 'em. The populace is utterly outgunned and are sitting ducks for just this sort of attack.

I think an argument, a very strong one, could be made that gun control DID contribute to the success of their attacks. Gun control, in this case, created the Utopian Situation for just this sort of attack.
The facts are indisputable. There is more data supporting the benefits of Conceal Carry than there is supporting global warming. If you choose ignorance, in light of all the evidence, in order to bolster your irrational fear of guns, you are a greater threat to society than any gun owner.
