Went back and tried a second time, did much better. However, I noticed the U of Chicago in the address, came back and read all the posts. Went to the link someone posted and read what U of C had "published" about the "game".

As someone who has had several courses in research methodology, both as an undergraduate and a graduate student, I am more than a little disturbed that a university, which once had a very good reputation for solid research, would sponsor/condone this supposed "research" project. It is a somewhat amusing game, but IMHO, no valid conclusions can be drawn from it. However, I am certain the professor and/or student who came up with this project will certainly draw the conclusions to which he/she was predisposed before the "study". I am also certain it will not be favorable toward caucasian gun owners.
My guess is that you are correct. I'm a white guy, and my scores say I'm quicker to judge another white guy. Both of my scores were faster for pictures of white individuals. Does this mean I give black people the benefit fo the doubt, or give them more consideration?

Anyway, I wish it told you stats on you bad shoots. Did I incorrectly shoot more black people or white people? I'd be pretty ashamed if there was notable swing either way. I hope I'm an equal opportunity screwer-upper.

I'll add one more thing. I believe that the game is based on shooting with a 45ACP, as I never had to shoot anyone more than once!

Just quickly looking through the scores it seems a majority of the the Black unarmed response times are the longest of the group. Seems we generally can identify a gun more quickly on blacks but also must take more time to figure out if they are holding a weapon if it is not clearly a gun.

Could draw some interesting conclusions from that as well.

I find it funny that they will use the data for racial profiling considering they did not gather any demographic info on the people using the test.

Also did anyone else notice that you loose more points (-40) for "Holstering" on a BG than you did for shooting (-20) a GG? To me a competitive person playing a game would error on the side of higher points and tend to shoot more often.
The data generated by us is not being used as they would require consent and a waiver. I believe that this test was part of a study done by the University of Chicago's sociology department if I remember correctly. The original test subjects were police officers and they were testing to see if police officers responded to different races of subjects at a more subconscious level. I believe this was done after the Amadou Diallo shooting in NYC.

I suggest you all contact the University as they are more than willing to share results of their academic research.

My total difference among all groups was 66ms. Whether they were holding the gun close to or away from their body, and how well the gun stood out against the background seemed to be the deciding factor as to whether my reaction time was quicker or not.
