If he pulls a knife, I would draw and warn him to back away, if I have time. If he is coming at me with a knife, draw and fire until the threat is neutralized. With my arthritic knees, I wouldn't stand much of a chance of running away, unless, maybe the BG was in a wheel chair.

Massad Ayoob did a video study for a court case that showed just how fast a man with a knife can advance on a person. I wish I knew were it was so I could post it here, but when it was presented to the jury...they found the man who shot a man attacking with a knife NOT GUILTY on all counts. It was remarkable how fast it was.

You should go to the DPS web page and download the applicable laws from the CHL section. Check section 9 of the Texas penal code. It spells out specifically under what circumstances you are justified in using force or deadly force.

remove yourself from the situation if you can, a hand on your gun and retreating is always better than lawyers and court rooms.

Here in texas, there is no duty retreat. I will draw and fire 2 COM, then call 911. BG have knife and threat you, he will kill you. BG will think you are going for your wallet instead of ur weapon.

I'm not an attorney, nor do I play one on TV... but I think the rule is, if you feel your life is in danger, you shoot. You keep shooting COM until the threat to your life ends.
