A armed man comes into a bank for a hold up

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. - Police said a search is under way for an armed man who robbed a bank in Harrison Township Monday.

Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel said the robber walked into the Flagstar Bank at 16 Mile and Crocker roads just after noon.

"We've had many bank robberies where people have just tried to pass a note implying that they have a weapon," Hackel said. "In this situation, it's completely different."

Hackel said surveillance shows the robber walking right up to a teller, pulling out a semi-automatic gun and putting it to a 20-year-old bank customer's head.

Hackel said the man wasted no time announcing the robbery, demanding cash and threatening to take the 20-year-old woman as a hostage with him.

"She (the hostage) immediately fell to the ground and was not going to go with him," Hackel said. "He was able to get an undisclosed amount of money from the bank teller ... and made an exit."

Hackel said the woman was not hurt.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Macomb County Sheriff's Department or Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAK-UP.

So the above is a story that happened locally to me. My question is how would you handle this situation?? Doesn't matter if your CC'ing or OC'ing. These things can and do happen to everyday people in everyday situations.

Easy. Call the cops after the guy is gone, although I'll bet the bank will beat you to it.

The bank is insured for the money. Your life wasn't in danger. You are NOT a LEO.

    End.

    Of.

    Story.

If you are OC'ing and the BG see's you before you see him, you may not have to worry about what to do.

If CCW'ing, only you know it. If he does not make any attempt to shoot anyone, be a good witness. If you think the hostage's life is in in danger you will have to make a choice and have only a few seconds to do it in.

Don't let Tombstone Courage make the decision for you.

Money can be eventually replaced even if it's not insured. The hostage can be a planted accomplice (you never know). If my life isn't obviously & immediately threatened...I'm just a guy doing anything the robber asks.

Play along and be a good witness,as far as him trying to take the bank teller hostage ,I really don't know what I would do it just depends on how the events unfold

Smart woman not to go along with him. Gets ugly once you're a kidnapping victim.

I don't believe you can carry in a MI bank...didn't this guy understand the MI gun laws?

Glad I live in FL...all my banking business is conducted while armed (CC), and sometimes I walk in with a hat and sunglasses...nothing has ever been said.

You are wrong here. You CAN carry legally in a MI bank... This is a cut and paste from here MSP - Pistol Free Areas

    "Pistol Free Areas

Individuals licensed to carry a concealed pistol by Michigan or another state are prohibited from carrying a concealed pistol on the following premises:

Schools or school property but may carry while in a vehicle on school property while dropping off or picking up if a parent or legal guardian

Public or private day care center, public or private child caring agency, or public or private child placing agency.

    Sports arena or stadium

A tavern where the primary source of income is the sale of alcoholic liquor by the glass consumed on the premises

Any property or facility owned or operated by a church, synagogue, mosque, temple, or other place of worship, unless the presiding official allows concealed weapons

An entertainment facility that the individual knows or should know has a seating capacity of 2,500 or more

    A hospital

A dormitory or classroom of a community college, college, or university

    A Casino

"Premises" does not include the parking areas of the places listed above in 1 through 8.

A pistol is subject to immediate seizure if the CCW permit holder is carrying a pistol in a "pistol free" area. The following penalties may also be imposed:

First offense: State Civil Infraction, $500 fine, CCW permit suspended 6 months
Second offense: 90-day misdemeanor, $1000 fine, CCW permit revoked
Third and subsequent offenses: 4-year felony, $5000 fine, CCW permit revoked

Furthermore, effective March 29, 2001, per Administrative Order 2001-1 of the Michigan Supreme Court:

"Weapons are not permitted in any courtroom, office, or other space used for official court business or by judicial employees unless the chief judge or other person designated by the chief judge has given prior approval consistent with the court's written policy." "

If I am in a bank or anywhere else and I see a badguy put a gun to another persons head then it is time for immediate action on my part.

The action of putting a gun to anothers head is saying that they are willing to kill and it has happened all to often.

I will give them the benefit of the doubt by believing that they (the BG) is telling the truth by taking this horrible action. My life is no more important than the tellers and I will act to protect her life.

My wife worked for a number of years at a local bank and it was in fact robbed...there have been far to many cases when the bad guy with the gun used it with malicious intent! I am not going to role the dices and assume that this is one of those "empty threats".

You can carry in a bank in Michigan.

The girl he tried to take hostage was real smart, she dropped to the floor and would not leave with him.

She said if she was going to die, she wanted to die there, not off somewhere with him.

    Smart girl.
