how far we have come in 50 years...
I was sitting thinking about the situations that I face myself in daily life and the horrible scenes on the news stations and it makes me think very hard.
What has transpired in the last 50 years that we have to worry about our safety just going to the grocery store or shopping or being in public period.
I remember as a kid my grandparents and I am sure there parents used to talk about when they were younger. The famous quote I always heard was " when I was a kid, we didn't lock our doors, and we slept with our windows open and our screen doors unlocked"
My question to you all is this: what has happened to our society in the last 50 years that has caused Americans to go from sleeping with their screen doors unlocked to fortifying their homes and being worried about their safety.
(and don't say you're not worried about your safety or you would not have opted to ccw )

We have progressively lost the ability to fight and resist evil because we have progressively lost the ability and the means to identify it as such. And if we try to identify it as such, we are demonized. Not our world any longer. It's theirs. Fifty years of brainwashing have led to the aggressors being identified as victims and the victims made to feel guilty for just being alive. That's just in a nutshell I guess. Too many examples and specific descriptions to list here. After all, it's been 50 yrs of that, as you noted.

As a society, we stopped allowing parents to discipline their kids. Now it's probably a crime in some places, and other places it would get the kids removed from the home.
Heck, in my kindergarten and first grade classes (we then moved, don't know how long it continued), the Principal would spank kids that misbehaved.

Ayn Rand was correct. Atlas Shrugged has occurred, in spades.

I have to agree with you on this...No child left behind programs and all the social engineering that started and is still continuing has caused this great society to colapse.

The weenification of America, a program actively pursued by Socialists in every facet of Government from the Federal level all the way down to the local level and especially those that deal with education.
They have effectively turned citizens of the greatest and most prosperous in the world into sheep in one generation...and as Khrushchev said...it would happen without firing a shot.
It appears he was spot on.
We have a presidential administration that sucks up to,coddles and finances enemies of the U.S., ignores it allies, is doing its best to redistribute the wealth and kill every institution that made this country great...and the time is right.

You said exactly what I was thinking and didn't know how to verbalize without a long drawn out posting. What was once shameful is now accepted, what was once wholesome is now laughed at and persecuted.
So, thank you for saying what I couldn't find the words to say concisely.

Hotguns, I agree. I am worried about what this administration is going to leave behind for our children to have to clean up. I could go on with my views forever. there was one famous quote that reminds me of whats going on right now.
"A government that is big enough to give you everything
Is a government that is big enough to take it all away"
- Thomas jefferson
and our rights are slowly being taken away and the BG's are now suing the Victims for defending themself. We are slowly turning into a socialist country with YOUR new president. notice YOUR not MINE :)

We, as a people, are no longer held accountable for our actions. We kill, rape, rob or molest because somehow we were abused as a child or we watched violent TV.
I remember as a child, if the neighbors saw me doing something wrong THEY were allow to spank me.

I watched a teacher on the news today. She said that something has to be done in Kansas City because kids are not only attacking each other, but they are attacking teachers. It is no longer a safe place to work.
She also said that the school board is ignoring the problem.
This is really messed up.

The reason is that we have gone away from the Biblically based moral values upon which this nation was founded. It shows up in all areas of society from the sexual immorality to the lack of concern for human life.
Men are lovers of self, haters of God, and without natural affection.
I don't see it getting better, and so we will have to adjust to the violence and reprobation of this society. Each of us can do what is right, but cannot control the actions and attitudes of others.
It is true that once we did not have to lock our doors or be afraid for our women and children to be out alone after dark, but those days are gone forever.
Regards,
Jerry

The 4 biggest things I see that have been detrimental to our society is:
1. Parents no longer discipline their kids and teach them right from wrong.
2. People don't take responsibility for their actions. Blame it on TV,movies, ADD/ADHD.
3. Schools no longer teach children, they indroctronate them in what is "politically correct".
4. Most important, in my opinion, is we have allowed God to be taken out of our schools/government and country.
Until we turn this trend around I see us only going further down the wrong path.
