    I believe it can happen.

Whether it be a terrorist attack (or multiple attacks) or an economic collapse, or a combination of the two.

We saw what happened after 9/11. The stock market shut down because it was in a free-fall.

If we had a larger scale attack than 9/11, we definitely could have a total meltdown.

As for the Battle of Armeggedon - it most definitely will happen. But it will be in the Valley of Megeddo....not the United States. The U.S. will have it's own problems. IF you are still around to witness this, it's not a good thing.

I really love everyones thought on this. Unlike so many, listening to others opinions can help you form your own decision, or confirm what you believe. I personally think something can happen, what? Im not sure, but something. They tried to blow up a plane in my home state on Christmas day. I believe it can happen.

At the very least...some type of local (or multiple locals) anarchy tied to a loss of power and communication. OMOYMV

Multiple city Katrina type anarchy brought on by terrorist activity in more than one place.

I'm not sure, but the Military taught me to be prepared my whole time and that's carried over. I've stored gear and supplies just in case, I have bug out bags ready to go with everything prepared.

I pray it will never happen on a scale that would require use of deadly force on my part, but if it does, I won't hesitate and what I don't have or will need, I will adapt, improvise and overcome. It's just that simple.

If you hear about Yellowstone starting to get real active, stock up for 5-6 years worth of food and water...the entire planet will be affected. This event occurring has a much higher probability than an asteroid hitting the earth. National Geographic ran a segment on it last year Under Yellowstone — National Geographic Magazine . You can also google "yellowstone volcano" and get a lot of well done scientifically based scenarios (as well as wacko doomsday stuff). Just something else to think about.

I think one has to step back for a moment and try to envision what "armageddon" would look like to someone like John of Patmos, who came up with the book of Revelations. Certainly seeing such catastrophe through the eyes of someone who lived in his day would be absolutely devastating, especially if these visions were of modern military equipment as well as possible nuclear explosions.

Do I think we may see Armageddon? Absolutely, in some form. I think we are approaching it now, especially with how things are playing out in the Middle East. How I think it will play out:

    1) The western democracies will continue their policies of placation and appeasement (led by the Obama administration) essentially repeating the mistakes made by people like Neville Chamberlin when he dealt with Hitler. Israels' foreign policies and actions will continue to fall out of favor with the rest of the world leaders, and will be pressured to make more concessions to the Arab world to maintain peace in the region.

    2) The Arab world, seeing that everyone, including Israel's staunchest ally, the United States is pressuring Israel to return to the negotiating table and give more concessions will become further emboldened, launching more attacks from Gaza and other areas against the country. At the same time, I believe the Taliban and Al-Queda will finally manage to topple the Pakistani government, which will prove a game changer for everyone.

    3) Somewhere in the chaos that will follow, critical technology required to finish a nuclear weapon will be smuggled out of Pakistan and make it's way to Iran. The same intelligence failures that have allowed the underwear bomber to make it to US airspace will be at work here; also, the anti-war WMD crowd will shout down any concerns people may have about the possibility of smuggled nuclear components, causing them to reach the wrong people.

    4) Israel, seeing this play out, refuses to stand by while the rest of the world talks about sanctions. They launch a military strike to take out the suspected location of the smugled nukes, and are only partially successful, or not at all. Iran or a nuclear Pakistan retaliate, launching weapons on Israel. Israel and possibly the United States retaliate, and then it is game on.

The panic that will follow such an event will cause more damage and mayhem than the nukes will. People will go nuts looking for places to get away from any possible attacks, Martial law will be declared in some areas, but all in all I think after the initial attacks take place there won't be much afterwards except low intensity firefights. But the world will go on, as it always has......

I'm more worried about natural disasters. Volcanos in Yellow Stone, a meteor strike, stuff like that. As for man made disasters, I haven't forgotten how we came together after 9/11. Our country seemed very united, and I think we could do it again, no problem.

Being prepared is wise on so many levels. From natural disasters to this "Armegeddon" or in case someone loses their job. I'm not trying to go down the religious road here, but I am a Mormon and in my church we encourage food storage very strongly. I have been married 14 years and my family has been doing this for quite awhile. Right now my wife and I are concentrating on getting out of debt, and while we are trying to cut excess spending and put every penny we have towards bills, the food storage is coming in very handy.......Just my .02 cents....

That's a unique snenario sketch there, you left out the other two game players, with the Nuking of Iran and the carry over of radiation to Saudia Arabia and Iraq and oil being affected, China will step into the game for you have take out their supply line, don't bet on them staying silent on that and Russian neither. The world will go on, but it might be populated by a few billion less of us.

"End of the World", I doubt it.
We don't have tornados or hurricanes.
However, Ever since the mountain blew up 1980, long term post disaster prep is a way of life in the pacific NW. Sure it hasn't happened for 30 years, BUT, it has happened.

+1 for me on this thought as well. Entire planet destryoyed...not likely. But a "Firesale" scenario, like in Live Free or Die Hard, I think is a possibility. Or possibly some sort of natural disaster or terrorist event that could put us into a temporary limbo until order could be restored. Sure, it could happen in my lifetime (33).

I've only recently put more thought into this. I'm not stockpiling food like some Mormon families I know (I'm not Mormon). But I do plan on putting together a family bug out bag with some mre's n such, and maybe keeping some cash on hand in the safe (to be purchased) along with sufficient ammo.

National? The Democrats would never let that happen.... no wait...

Seriously, it'll be a world wide event and no, I won't be here when it happens.

Agreed; I only outlined what I think may start things off, given the current world situation; What happens after the SHTF is anybody's guess, but I think you are right about China & Russia moving as well to protect their interests as well as others.

I'm 34, so yes, I think the odds of a major catastrophe or large scale terrorist attack in my lifetime is a very likely possibility given the way things are going. I'm basically a nomad now, so adjusting to being mobile isn't that hard for me. I've got a "bug out" bag in storage, and am ready to go at any given minute.

I know, I sound like I've got a tin foil hat collection with this post, but it just seems like the possibilty is there and growing.

Understood my friend, I apologize, I should have worded that differently to say that I also think? I sometimes don't word my replies the way I want. Thanks for knowing what I meant by my response.
