Since I became a Christian, I have a slightly different look at things. If Armageddon occurs...that probably means Christ has come back, and at that point, I will be with Him. If we are talking natural events, terrorist attacks, etc. I am preparing for them. Extra food, water, gas, ammo., provisions for my family. And as a previous poster stated. If Christ has come, I hope someone left behind can use my stash...as there will be a Bible in it too...you have seven years.

Yes...but not like the mainstream thinks.

Rough example but get my point across

My main worry is somthing like Iran and Isreal going to war and Oil supply goes south, all shipping of food and normal commerce grinds to a trickle, stores run out of commodities and food goes on the short due to distrubution and production woes, people panic.

On top of that we get hyper inflation of the dollar, economy totally farts out.

Then self dependency completely erodes, gov. steps in, and sheep will be herded into soup lines by men with rifles and such chaos like that.

I'll be, and I think most of us that prepare, will tending to my/our gardens and food stores until that's over (possibly last a year or two) and have enough "real money" (gold/silver) to buy/barder things...example: I can produce eggs and garlic, and you can produce milk and corn. I have this that I can trade for that or this amount of silver and or gold will get me this or that....then we can barder and live. Make that last until we get back on our feet again as a country and by then people will see the light and we should be "enlightened" possibly be smarter on who we put into office and how things are ran.

Though the goverment would hate to see such self relience and possibly enact laws or such to curb such actions then...it would get WAY worse.

Every generation of people as far as written history goes back leave some indicators that some or many people felt the end times were near.

I'd consider the fall of Rome and the 1000+ years of feudalism that followed an example of an apocalypse or post-apoplectic civilization though that was hardly the case worldwide - some of their subjugates kept the wheels on without any trouble at all.

So the question should be I think, do I think something like that will happen to America or to Western Democracy in general in my lifetime?

There is a lot to be afraid of; and while I've prepared for a basic SHTF scenario something like Katrina or maybe even a little worse, I don't think a true apocalypse is likely. It certainly is possible, and its become much more possible in the last century than at any time before. It took hundreds of years for Rome to fully collapse. I think with the right catalysts western civilization could effectively collapse in days.

I voted no but my real answer is I think there is probability of around 5-20% of this happening. The margin is so wide because there are so many variables I do not know the true answer to.

I can foresee a few possibilities for an "Armegeddon" like scenario.

    1. Worsening economic problems could lead to inner city riots.

    2. A natural disaster could cause disruption.

Where I live, I wouldn't be affected by any riots, and I don't see that happening in the cities nearby, Ogden and Salt Lake.

However, California is not too far west. Anything big, like an 8.0 quake or higher, could result in large numbers of people fleeing to the east to escape the devastation there. That could affect me if hordes of hungry people are camped in the hills around my house.

A large portion of the world is currently in murderous chaos, There are large scale terrorist attacks world wide, wars, almost complete anarchy(Somalia etc), hurricanes, tornados, blizzards, famines, plagues, tsunamis etc all the time. So yes if not globally then at least regionally.

    I am a prepper.

I have been for a number of years but it became feverish when the economy began to and continues to tank.

I have no idea if something predicted will happen.

But I do nknow what happens when hyperinflation occurs. If you need a recent example, look at Argentina.

Our economy is in chaos. There are a lot more unemployed than what is being reported as many people have dropped off the unemployment insurance lines because their time has run out.

There are HUGE tax increases coming. To many people are getting benefits and entitlements and too few people are paying taxes.

It would not take much to upset the applecart. A major war in the Middle East involving Iran and Israel will close the Straits of Hormuz and shut off almost 50% of the world's oil. If diesel is to expensive to buy, then prices will skyrocket and folks living on a fixed income will no longer be able to afford food, heat or shelter.

We get a huge amount of our oil from Venezuela and Hugo Chavez has control there.

Hyperinflation can destroy this country in days. Look at Germany in the 1920s.

Will it happen in my lifetime? I didn't use to think so but I am beginning to now.

There is nothing wroong in looking at what happened during Katrina and deciding that being prepared for the worse is better than experiencing not being prepared.

Firearms will be necessary but no more than food, shelter and heat. 22long rifle may be helpful for food and defense but it also could become barter material when money is no longer viable.

Right now, using an ammo searcxh engine, you could probably buy 50,000 rounds of .22lr for about $1,000. What would that be worth if/when the SHTF?

There a gazillion 'prepper" websites out there. Stop by and visit some when you have a moment and see how many people have already made the commitment to be self reliant rather than waiting for someone to "do soemthing".

I have had a survivalist bent for over 40 years. In the last few years it has accelerated a LOT. I have known a number of JCLDS folks over the years and have a great deal of respect for their surviving skills and teachings. If you look at their history you will find out while they feel this way. I am about 1/2 tank of gas away from a major city, I just hope I am far enough off the beaten track so the golden hoard passes me by. I am on 15 acres with passable rainfall and 2 big ponds so if I can get a few young folks here to do the heavy lifting my wife and I should be alright.

Here is a GREAT preppers blog:

    LISTENING TO KATRINA

The author kept a diary about escaping Katrina with his family and what he did and what he did wrong.

If you are planning on fleeing from an urban area to go anywhere in a SHTF scenario, please read the info on this blog.

I'll play the rider on the dark horse here. I believe that any of these Armageddon scenarios, and a lot worse, will happen. Considering the circumstances that our country is in now, the present circumstances of the world, (One World Government/ New World Order/ One world Currency) and specifically the circumstances involving the Middle East, it's inevitable that everything is coming to a head. It's not IF these "things" will happen, but WHEN they will happen. I believe that all will come to pass in the next 9-10 yrs., to include the Battle of Armageddon of the Bible. I'm not looking for a debate, and I'm not a pessimist, I'm a realist, and I can find no evidence whatsoever to encourage me to believe otherwise.
