Lunatic shooting spree... What would you do?
For some reason when I am out and about I like to run possible scenarios through my head. I'm sure some of you do the same.
Well tonight I was at Walmart and as I was passing the entrance coming out of the grocery section heading into the clothing section; I thought to myself if a lone gunman walked in with an AK-47 and started shooting the place up and everyone in his sight... what would I do? Obviously I would want to get out of the line of fire first and foremost before I even consider defending myself and ending this threat.
I figured it would be smart to duck into the clothing racks to hide temporarily or behind the jewelry counter for cover. Hopefully he wouldn't see me. In this new position I would obviously draw my 1911 and take the safety off.
At this point I have two options... I could expose myself now that I have my weapon in hand and take a shot at him to end the threat. Obviously this would expose me and I could risk getting shot myself... or do I hold tight and wait til he passes to come up behind him and shoot him in the back? Would shooting someone in the back in this scenario be legal? I would imagine it would... but I also know there are over zealous DA's out there that would try to prosecute me for that.
What would you do in this scenario assuming you ducked for cover first?

Hmm. If I'm up against a rifle and shooter with more ammo than me, I'm hiding and waiting to take the cheap shot!

If you're going to carry one weapon, might as well carry two, because as the saying goes, "Two is one, and one is none."

My first obligation is to protect my family and myself. Assuming I can get under cover safely, I don't think I would take a shot unless I could be certain that there would be no innocent people in my line of fire, and that I could shoot without being shot back at.
I know this is the age old discussion of protection vs. obligation, but unless I am in imminent threat of harm, it could be worse for me to be the good guy and take the BG down. If I was able, I would call 911.
But, first and foremost my obligation is to protect my family and myself.

Let's see...how fast can I run to the back of the store?
I'd push the back door alarm and exit...call 911 and be a good witness.
"That I cannot do."

911 and escape is the first thing.
If there is no way of escape and the situation requires me to instead call my buddies Smith & Wesson at 29 44 magnum street to help put the assailant down, I will do my best to oblige.
There is something about firing 4,200 thirty millimeter rounds/min that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

If I was with my wife or other family members my first priority would be to protect them. I would look for a solid hiding spot and lead them to safety. I would then draw my weapon and keep myself between them and the gunman. I usually carry my LCP or CZ-82...neither a match against an AK. My stategy would be to stay hidden with my family and only open fire with all I got if he got too close for comfort. Bottom line.... defensive stance only.....I would not look to be a hero.
Very tough senario....

I like this option. I think in this situation the last round will be deafening and at that point, if I am close enough, I'm taking a shot while the maniac is reloading.

Immediately find concealment, dial 911.
Try to find cover/ head for exit.
I would definitely look for an advantage to shoot a firing bad guy.
If pinned down, wait, be prepared to fire, and try to look harmless until I had a shot (i.e. concealing weapon)

Man you would be so out gunned
, hide and shoot him in the head if he comes near you. or run bust a long gun out of the sporting goods glass and some ammo........and be a HERO....
Me personally I am running to the back dialing 911 and telling them to bring s.w.a.t when they come....But he would get all 7 (i know) rounds from my gun shot at him before i went down..
You may not like guns. You may choose not to own one. That is your right.
You might not believe in God. That is your choice.
However, if someone breaks into your home at 3AM the first two things you are going to do are:
1) Call someone with a gun.
2)Pray they get there in time." - A wise man

Well, first and foremost I am getting my family to safety. If that means killing him now, then fine. If it means running them out the door fine. Dialing 911.
But, even in running them out the door, if he is an active shooter, that I have seen killing people, I am going back in and killing him.

It seems likely that if he has a rifle and plans on going on a spree, he also has armor, so one better have good aim or it's going to be a short fight.
If my family were in immediate danger, I'd do what I'd need to do. Otherwise, retreat is my middle name.
