Why do you wear a seat belt?

Why do boats have life jackets?

Accuracy ALWAYS WINS! So carry what you can hit with.

If you find yourself in a fair fight your tactics stink.

How is it possible that nobody posted this yet????

Because an armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.

    I also like:
"Because I'm intelligent and realistic enough to know the risks and how to mitigate them." I love using facts and intelligence because it let's them know that they are the idiots that are reacting out of emotion.

I have also mentioned that Jacksonville is the murder capital of Florida and about a home invasion rape that happened a couple of miles away several years ago. My wife will tell you that my favorite response is "when seconds count, a cop is only minutes away."

BTW, I've never been made while carrying, but I do like to debate....

Why do I carry a gun?

Because if I need one nothing else will do.
Cogito, ergo armatum sum. I think, therefore I am armed.

Many of the above but my favorite, from a neighbor that "educated" me when I first got a CCW:
"I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6"

I just couldn't stand the humiliation of a half-wit dancing around my head on a stick.

I like what RealFriend said about self-responsibility.

Others allude to a solemn duty to one's basic human right of self defense.

"Because I might have to shoot someone" etc., had me rotflmao, but might be considered "carrying for the purpose of going armed", as they say here in TN.
Americans understood the right of self-preservation as permitting a citizen to repel force by force
when the intervention of society... may be too late to prevent an injury.

    Try this.
The cops bring guns to fight crime.
    The coroner brings chalk.
The way I see it when someone tries to kill you, you going to need one of those two things.
I made my choice ,now you make yours ---- no hurry ,I'll wait---
At this point it nice to have a piece of chalk to hold out for them to take and wait for it to sink in.
Zoe: "Preacher, don't the Bible have some pretty specific things to say about killing?

Book: "Quite specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps."

    How about this one?
(Delivered in a calm & rational voice) "Ever see a photo of a person just murdered lying in the street in a pool of blood?" (Usually a nod of the head)

"And then the cops draw an outline of his dead body on the pavement with yellow chalk?" (Another nod)

"Well, I don't want to be that dude because I am allergec to chalk dust".

Without having looked at all the replies, so I apologize for repeating, but the answer to such a question IS NO ANSWER. They are not asking (they know the answer) they are TELLING YOU something that is not worth an answer. They are the first "sheep' who will beg for help and they are hypocrites not worth this idiot conversation.

That's classic. You scared the crap out of him. Seems not very welcoming of new family members...but I get your point...and you were straight to the point. I would have said it differently though.

For the same reason I have life insurance. But, given the option, I'd like to use the gun first.
