Question Would you impersonate a police officer if..

you were actively in a shootout with a mass murderer... And on duty Officers just arrived on the scene not aware of who the bad guy is...

from Officer Ken Hammond who help stop a mass murder when he was off duty in a Kansas mall...............
"It was kind of tense for a few seconds. ... I'm standing there in plain clothes with a gun out," said Hammond. "We just kind of stared at each other. I'm screaming as loud as I can, 'I'm Officer Hammond, Ogden City Police. I'm off-duty, OPD' -- just kept repeating myself."
-----He is talking about another officer arriving on the scene.

I think i would just have to shout POLICE In this situation, even though I am not one. I would deal with the consequences later.

What do you all think???? here is the story http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/02/13/off...tah/index.html
You may not like guns. You may choose not to own one. That is your right.
You might not believe in God. That is your choice.
However, if someone breaks into your home at 3AM the first two things you are going to do are:
    1) Call someone with a gun.
2)Pray they get there in time." - A wise man

All the things I would be shouting.... "POLICE!" wouldn't be one of them.

Concur w/Razor. I'd probably shout a bunch of things that my pastor wouldn't approve of, but impersonating an officer just isn't in my bag of tricks.

Even edited... I can't say I would impersonate. Can't see what good it would do.

If police are ordering me down I sure as hell wouldn't shout "police" or "I'm an officer" or some such. I would shout "Friendly! Friendly!" and comply with every command they give. Offering no resistance.

Once the Police show up I lay my gun down, its their job now

But think about this. You hold your hands up and begin to lay down then the police officer might think that you are the bad guy and completely focus on you, and taking you into custody, BG winds up killing you and the cop.

Nobody said that you have to shut up. They said they would lay there gun down a back away. At this point you best be saying something about who you are. Now the BG will do the same. If the BG still has his gun, then you might not want to put yours down. But thats another situation. Please stick to your scenario. Changing it every other post isnt fun.

    Bingo.

I see cops...I drop the gun to the ground, kneel, and prone myself out IMMEDIATELY (!!!!).

Even if inside my own home...I would do this.
They come cuff me right out the gate. Fine.

Just don't tase me bro...or send in a dog...or shoot me dead like Amadou Diallo.

I cannot think of a situation where it would be prudent to state in so many words to another that I am a police, without actually being one.
That is in many states a major crime in general muchless to do same as toward a real police.

Impersonate a police officer? Seriously? I believe that is called a 3rd degree felony in Texas. So, "dealing with the consequences later" could mean sitting behind bars in prison. No thanks. In fact, I'm slightly bothered this question has even come up, because that means someone actually has considered this.
